Ty Montgomery Injury: Updates on Packers WR's Hamstring and Return
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Ty Montgomery was thrust into a bigger role when Jordy Nelson was lost for the season with a torn ACL, but the rookie found himself battling a hamstring issue prior to the start of the regular season. On Sunday, the Packers announced Montgomery was active for the regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears.
A third-round pick out of Stanford, Montgomery immediately impressed Green Bay's coaching staff thanks to his solid blend of athletic attributes.
According to ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky, head coach Mike McCarthy classified Montgomery as "strong, very powerful, obviously gifted" during training camp.

Montgomery's teammates have also been impressed by how he embraced the cognitive aspects of complex professional schemes.
"Taking away the athletic part of it, just his approach to understanding our playbook, asking questions, trying to be detailed as much as possible in a short amount of time," Nelson said of Montgomery's preparation prior to being ruled out for the season, per Demovsky.
