WWE Night of Champions 2015: Full Card Predictions After SummerSlam

Ryan DilbertAug 24, 2015

SummerSlam's sputtering endings will lead to new beginnings at WWE Night of Champions 2015.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev ended with a double count-out. Seth Rollins vs. John Cena ended with a TV host nailing a powerhouse with a steel chair. Those matches failed to provide satisfying climaxes but acted as preludes to the next round of larger-than-life clashes when WWE travels to Houston for Night of Champions.

Elsewhere at the summer blockbuster, new tag team champions emerged, PCB scored a win over the dominant women's group and Kevin Owens won a hard-fought victory. Each of those outcomes will allow those winners to grab hold of opportunities and step into fresh showdowns.

Let's take a look ahead at what the Night of Champions card will look like when WWE puts together its next major event in four weeks' time.

Charlotte vs. Nikki Bella (Divas Championship)

1 of 6

Someone from PCB is getting a crack at Nikki Bella and the Divas Championship. For the women's division, the road to Night of Champions is going to be all about whether Paige, Becky Lynch or Charlotte gets that spot.

The trio outlasted Team B.A.D. and Team Bella at SummerSlam for the right to be called the most dominant team of the three.

With that settled, it's time to start focusing on Nikki closing in on AJ Lee's record of longest-reigning Divas champ. PCB's SummerSlam win points to one of those three women being her next challenger.

Paige vs. Nikki has been done to death. That's what WWE ran with for months before the Divas Revolution angle. And while Lynch got the deciding pinfall on Sunday, Charlotte will ultimately be the No. 1 contender.

Charlotte has been treated as if she exists on a higher plane than Lynch going back to their NXT days. Charlotte was NXT champ and the division's centerpiece; Lynch was only a contender at her peak.

Expect that hierarchy to remain the same. Look for Charlotte to get the title shot and the win as the figurehead of the recent Divas movement.

The New Day vs. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose (Tag Team Championship)

2 of 6

There's a chance that WWE will just play hot potato with the tag team belts and let The Prime Time Players win it back from The New Day before long. The bigger, more compelling story, though, would be for Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to start vying for the titles.

Their brotherly relationship has been a big focus of WWE TV of late. Reigns and Ambrose have been a fun pair, but considering how much WWE has stressed their closeness, one has to imagine that it is a bit of foreshadowing of their eventual split.

If that's going to happen, putting them in the spotlight and going for tag team gold makes a lot of sense.

Besides, while other wrestlers occupy the world title scene, making Reigns and Ambrose a long-term team would be something to do with both men until they get a chance to move up the card.

The New Day, fresh off regaining its title at SummerSlam, is in need of fresh foils. The trio has been a delight as irritating heels but has had an underwhelming rivalry with The Prime Time Players. Clashing with what's left of The Shield is far more exciting.

Dolph Ziggler and Lana vs. Rusev and Summer Rae

3 of 6

The most obvious thing coming out of SummerSlam was that Dolph Ziggler and Rusev aren't done with each other. Their bout ended in a double count-out. After the bell, their two girlfriends clawed at each other in a spirited brawl.

It was among the most inconclusive endings all night.

The Ziggler-Rusev feud is sure to continue, and considering how much focus WWE has put on Lana and Summer Rae, the safe bet is that the company will go the mixed-tag route come Night of Champions. It would offer the pay-per-view a bit of lighthearted fare to vary things up.

Ziggler and Rusev can then have a blow-off match at Hell in a Cell. Since Lana and Summer have dominated this angle so far, it wouldn't be a shock if the third chapter of this rivalry pitted the two women against each other, with the men acting as cheerleaders.

Ryback vs. Stardust (Intercontinental Championship)

4 of 6

Stardust needs a target until WWE rolls out a Team Amell vs. Team Stardust match at Survivor Series. Ryback needs a new challenge after taking down both Big Show and The Miz at SummerSlam.

Stephen Amell impressed in his tag match against Stardust. He's sure to be invited back. Having him head a team at Survivor Series against Stardust and whatever crew he puts together is a likely scenario.

If that's the case, Stardust can stay in the spotlight by going after the Intercontinental Championship.

As for Ryback, he has beaten The Miz several times. He's now slammed Big Show around a bunch and owns a decisive win against him at SummerSlam. It's time to move on, something The Big Guy hinted at in his post-match interview.

Stardust hasn't been booked strongly, but WWE has focused on him of late. A few wins against some of the roster's heroes will have The Prince of Dark Matter looking like a viable contender.

United States Championship Tournament Semifinals and Finals

5 of 6

History says that Seth Rollins won't keep the United States Championship. Double-champions in the past have often vacated the midcard belt.

When Rollins does that, there will be a mad chase for that piece of leather and gold.

This is WWE's chance to add Kevin Owens, Cesaro, Sheamus and Randy Orton to the Night of Champions card without just putting them in SummerSlam rematches. Sheamus knocked off Orton to tie up their recent series at 1-1. Owens defeated Cesaro in an intense matchup.

Booking Cesaro vs. Sheamus and Owens vs. Orton in the semifinals would provide fans with two fresh matchups. Then WWE can go with a Cesaro-Owens rematch, this time with higher stakes, or else have Orton win it all and try to continue to elevate the United States title, as Cena has done since WrestleMania.

This route would give the tourney ample star power and allow WWE to infuse current rivalries into a new environment.

Seth Rollins vs. John Cena (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

6 of 6

John Cena will get another chance to become a 16-time world champion.

His defeat at SummerSlam is the kind of ending that guarantees a rematch: Jon Stewart aided Rollins to victory with a steel chair. That's no rivalry-ending result; that's a bridge to the next chapter.

The babyface will have revenge on his mind. He has plenty of ammo when he goes to ask for a match to make up for how this one ended. Add that to the fact that WWE seems to just plug Cena into the world title picture when it runs out of ideas for him elsewhere, and it looks like Rollins will have an angry sneaker-wearing warrior coming his way at Night of Champions.

It's not the freshest match, but seeing the great action these two just pulled off at SummerSlam, WWE is sure to be confident in booking it one more time.
