WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from August 20
With just 71 hours until SummerSlam hits the WWE Network airwaves, SmackDown emanated from Green Bay, Wisconsin, with a huge eight-man tag team main event that reflected three of this Sunday's midcard clashes.
Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Cesaro and Randy Orton teamed to face Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, Kevin Owens and Sheamus in an action-packed main event won by the babyfaces.
It remains to be seen exactly what effect that will have on the booking of Sunday's event, but for now it served as a major momentum boost for four of wrestling's most popular stars entering one of the year's most significant broadcasts.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Elsewhere on the show, Dolph Ziggler and Lana addressed the WWE Universe following The Showoff's return on Raw. Of course, Rusev and Summer Rae made their presences felt, but for the second consecutive time, the former world champion and his ravishing Russian girlfriend got the last laugh.
But did Ziggler set himself up for pain and punishment Sunday night?
Stardust and King Barrett delivered one last warning to Neville ahead of the big tag team match also involving actor Stephen Amell, while The New Day picked up a victory over Los Matadores and El Torito and Brie Bella knocked off Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch in a huge Divas Triple Threat match.
But who were the winners and losers on Thursday night?
Take a look for yourself.

Winner: Xavier Woods
The most underrated performer on the roster over the last two months has been Xavier Woods, who has really developed into a modern-day manager of sorts. He is the mouthpiece for the New Day and a heat magnet at ringside.
On Thursday night, he saw action, teaming with Kofi Kingston and Big E to face Los Matadores and El Torito.
In a bit of brilliant booking, the sneaky, loudmouthed Woods scored a pinfall victory over the much smaller Torito, then acted as if he had won the lottery as he celebrated with his teammates.
It was so over the top, but at the same time, it was the exact type of performance that will earn Woods more heat. At a time when WWE is having a difficult time getting its audience to buy into its tag teams, putting greater effort into pushing Woods and the other two members of the great New Day would behoove the company.

Loser: Bo Dallas
Remember when the third-generation star arrived on the scene with his Bo-lieve gimmick and started getting over to the point that fans were cheering him and forcing WWE to dub those big pops with canned heat on SmackDown?
Those days seem like an eternity ago now, as Dallas has settled into the role of jobber, losing every match he works and appearing in no match or angle of any note.
This week's loss was particularly shocking, as he was jobbed out to Neville in less than two minutes, the victim of a kick and a Red Arrow to put him away.
Like Adam Rose and The Ascension, Dallas is yet another example of an NXT talent who was called up to the main roster and showed flashes of potential but was never allowed to build on it thanks to WWE Creative's uneven booking.

Losers: The WWE Divas
This designation has nothing to do with the entertaining Triple Threat match that unfolded between Brie Bella, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. That was a fast-paced, quality match. The problem the Divas had Thursday night concerned the fact that, at one time, there were eight different women in the ring, and not a single one of them was at all concerned with being Divas champion.
WWE has been working so hard to convince its fans that we are in the middle of a Divas Revolution that the championship has taken a back seat.
Nikki Bella has spent weeks touting the fact that she is X amount of days from breaking AJ Lee's record for the longest reign with the title, but what does that matter when she defends the title so infrequently?
Yes, we get that there is a revolution going on in women's wrestling. Yes, we understand that the call-up of several NXT stars has a lot to do with that. But let's get back to business and treat the Divas Championship as important again.
If not, what are the women really fighting for?

Winner: Dean Ambrose
The Lunatic Fringe has lost a lot over the last two months, particularly for someone as over as he is. He has been defeated relatively cleanly by both Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper, so it was nice to see him pick up the win in the eight-man tag team main event Thursday night.
The closing series, in which he ducked a discus clothesline by Harper and countered into Dirty Deeds was fantastic and popped the crowd, leading to a babyface celebration to close the show.
Ambrose is a highly charismatic star who is over organically. He has not been shoved down the fans' throats but has managed to garner their love and support because he is a tenacious pit bull of a wrestler who never quits.
At some point, WWE Creative and the rest of the company's management will have to look at Ambrose, recognize the fact that is he one of the most consistently over stars it has and reward him with a significant push—not just one that sees him challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE title whenever The Architect does not have anything else better to do.

Winners: Stardust and King Barrett
There is no way the team of Stardust and King Barrett should work as well as it does, but for those of you who were avid fans of the YouTube-exclusive JBL and Cole Show, you know that Cody Rhodes and Barrett have some extraordinary chemistry.
On Thursday night, they were gloriously ridiculous as they addressed Neville.
"On Sunday, red and green turn black and blue!" Barrett warned The Man That Gravity Forgot. "Yeah! He's going to punch you!" Stardust responded in a great bit.
The problem with the Stardust character is that he works so much better when he has someone to play off. The backstage promos that he cuts by himself are good but lack that partner to really interact with.
We saw it with Goldust and now are seeing it with "Cosmic King" Barrett.
Their partnership may be a one-and-done thing, but if they continue to show flashes of brilliance as they have thus far, perhaps WWE will consider keeping them together.
After all, it is not like the company is doing anything better with either performer.
