Alex Sandro to Juventus: Latest Transfer Details, Comments and Reaction

Tyler ConwayAug 20, 2015

With his medical all cleared up and a transfer fee agreed upon, Alex Sandro is officially a member of Juventus. The Brazilian left back inked his contract Thursday, making a move after a four-year stint at FC Porto

Juventus will pay a €26 million fee over the next three years as compensation. Sandro, who previously spent time with Santos and Atletico Paranaense, has signed a five-year contract with the Italian club.

Looking to bolster their defense, Juventus has spent much of the transfer market targeting Sandro and similar players. Sandro, 24, has been an integral part of keeping Porto near the top of the Primeira Liga, helping them to the Champions League every year since his arrival. The Portuguese side will earn more than double the transfer fee they paid for Sandro in 2011 with this move.

Juventus, meanwhile, are coming off a Serie A championship and are looking to establish themselves among the world's best. The departure of Arturo Vidal and a reported deal involving Paul Pogba heading to Barcelona for the summer of 2016, per Gazetta dello Sport (h/t Sky Sports and via Fox Sports), leaves a little bit of uncertainty regarding the club's future, but they remain confident in a reloaded, young core.

“[We’ve] won the Super Cup, Alex Sandro arrives and he has great quality and attacking drive," Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri told reporters. "Kwadwo Asamoah will return soon, the club is working well. We might be lacking in experience, but we are growing and there is quality. In order to be consistently in the top eight in Europe you need quality.”

Under the five-year deal, Juventus should hold Sandro's rights for the entirety of his prime. Moving to the Italian league will be a step up in competition, but he's held his own through UCL play the past few years; it shouldn't be much of an adjustment.

Either way, following a summer where their departures made more news than arrivals, Juventus struck gold before the window closes.
