WWE SummerSlam 2015: Full Predictions for Each Champion at Event

Brad JonesAug 23, 2015

A four-hour supercard has been assembled for SummerSlam 2015, and it's one that will see four major championships defended.

Last night, the rising stars of NXT put on a scintillating show at the Barclays Center—and now the pressure is on the main roster to demonstrate that they can hang with the talent of tomorrow.

Luckily, there's no shortage of talent set to appear at SummerSlam. It will be no small task to live up to the standard set by Takeover, but hopefully that will only contribute to tonight's event being one of the best in the pay-per-view's storied history.

Tonight, four championships will be defended—here are the latest predictions for how each titleholder will fare as SummerSlam gets underway.

Divas Championship

1 of 4

While Nikki Bella won't be defending her Divas Championship at SummerSlam, it seems clear that we'll see a setup for her next title defence at the event.

The three-team elimination match set to be contested between PCB, Team Bella and Team B.A.D. will be our best look yet at the new landscape of the refreshed women's division. Who picks up the pinfalls and who takes them will likely help establish a hierarchy going forward.

With the title not on the line, there's an opening for Nikki to suffer a defeat that lines up a new challenger. This would make for a neat lead-in to Night of Champions—or a title fight on Raw the following night.

Charlotte looks to be the best bet to pin Nikki and stake her claim for the title, but Sasha Banks could also fill that role. Whatever the outcome, expect the Divas champion to be on the losing side at SummerSlam.

Intercontinental Championship

2 of 4

There's no curse on the Intercontinental Championship—but it certainly feels that way.

After Daniel Bryan had to forfeit the belt due to injury, we've now seen Ryback's title reign impeded by a serious staph infection. The Sin City Silverback was making headway as champion, but missing important television time has undoubtedly stalled his progress.

However, it seems likely that Ryback will retain the title at SummerSlam. Neither The Miz nor Big Show would offer much as champion, and at this point, the focus needs to be on moving on from this program and toward something a little more engaging.

Ryback can still turn things around before his reign comes to an end, but he needs to distance himself from this bland, unappealing three-man feud. A solid win tonight can do just that—and, hopefully, he can enter into a rivalry that has a bit more pep.

The Prime Time Players

3 of 4

While the tag team division is flying under the radar somewhat at the moment, it's quietly become rather strong in recent months.

The Prime Time Players are blossoming as champions, The New Day remain a unit that are more than worthy of having a division built around them, and there are several more teams that are developing nicely to fill out the ranks.

The Fatal 4-Way match set for tonight is a handy way of showcasing a swathe of the division. Expect a chaotic affair with plenty of interplay between the teams at all times. Frequent tags and plenty of multi-man manoeuvres to take advantage of the stipulation will likely pepper the bout.

As far as a winner goes, it's difficult to say which direction the division is going in. The Prime Time Players certainly have the potential to mature further with the belts, but on the other hand, the Lucha Dragons would benefit from being at the centre of things for a while.

However, The New Day offers the best proposition overall. All three members are fully in their stride at present, and that's something WWE would be apt to take advantage of. The New Day are the right group to shepherd the tag team division into the future.

John Cena and Seth Rollins

4 of 4

Tonight, the fates of the United States champion and the WWE world heavyweight champion are inextricably linked.

This bout between two men who won their titles at WrestleMania 31 is being pitched as a title-unification match. However, there's a distinct possibility that both belts won't be around the same waist when all is said and done.

Whether it's a disqualification finish or the ever-present threat of a Money in the Bank cash-in by Sheamus, it's hard to imagine WWE allowing the United States Championship's status to be diminished by allowing it to become someone's "other" title after months of work went into rehabilitating its prestige.

However, a clean win to claim one of the most hotly contested prizes in WWE would do plenty to further legitimize Seth Rollins. The Architect's reign has been defined by dodging challenges and taking shortcuts, so seeing him overcome the odds would be an intriguing way to flip the script and have him truly deliver.

On the other hand, it's difficult to see John Cena picking up the win. He's had the best year of his career in terms of match quality, but even so, seeing him re-enter the main event as the defending champion would seem like a step backward rather than forward.

Rollins seems like the man to back going into this huge title fight, but as we've seen many times before, Cena is always capable of picking up a win.
