Devin Funchess Injury: Updates on Panthers WR's Hamstring and Return
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess was dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of preseason action. Despite aggravating the injury on Aug. 31, he will be active for the regular-season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Funchess was selected in the second round of this year's draft to create a receiving duo with Kelvin Benjamin that would be able to compete with any unit in the NFL. With Benjamin standing at 6'5" and Funchess at 6'4", quarterback Cam Newton was going to have some big, trusty targets to hone in on. But those plans were hampered when Benjamin went down with a torn ACL.

With Benjamin out, Funchess was thought to be the team's new leading man after totaling 1,715 yards in three seasons at Michigan. However, the Panthers went in another direction, as Corey Brown and Ted Ginn Jr. were named the starting wide receivers.
