Little League World Series Regionals 2015: Scores, Bracket Results for Final Day

Timothy RappAug 16, 2015

The final two United States slots in the Little League World Series were up for grabs on Sunday, with the Mid-Atlantic and New England Regionals coming to a close.

Below, we'll break down the scores and recaps of the two championship games as two more teams punched their tickets to Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Cranston Western Little League team from Rhode Island advanced to the Little League World Series on Sunday, as a five-run third inning propelled it to a 10-4 win over the Bedford Little League squad from New Hampshire.

Nick Mason led the way with a grand slam in the third, his second of the regional, per Bill Koch of the Providence Journal. Those blasts are certainly a huge reason why Cranston is heading to Williamsport.

“It’s every Little Leaguer’s dream to go to Williamsport,” Mason told Koch on Saturday after Cranston beat Vermont to reach the Mid-Atlantic final. “If you have a chance to go there it’s amazing. If you actually win the game and go there it’s incredible.”

Dylan Demers—who scored three runs in the game—went yard after Mason's grand slam in the third. Cam Adamec and Jared Olson combined to give up four runs on just five hits and six walks while striking out five.

New Hampshire battled back in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs, and it also pushed a run across in the next two innings to get within a 7-4 margin. But Jake Bender's three-run double in the top of the sixth gave Rhode Island a comfortable margin heading into the bottom of the sixth, and New Hampshire couldn't close the gap.

Mason and his teammates will live out their dream on Friday, as Cranston will face Northwood Little League out of South Carolina in its opening-round game of the Little League World Series.

Pennsylvania Beats New Jersey, 12-0

The Smash Zone is heading to Williamsport.

Red Land Little League out of Pennsylvania capped off an unbeaten run through the Mid-Atlantic Regional on Sunday, knocking off Jackson Township Little League from New Jersey, 12-0.

In three Mid-Atlantic games, Red Land outscored their opponents, 36-5.

Starting pitcher Cole Wagner was spectacular for Red Land in a game that was within reach for Jackson Township until the final inning, pitching six innings without allowing a run while giving up eight hits, striking out eight and not allowing a walk.

Red Land held a 4-0 lead heading into the top of the six before it exploded, scoring eight runs behind Ethan Phillips' two-run double, Chayton Krauss' two-run homer, a pair of RBI on two fielder's choices and Jaden Henline's two-run double.

Pennsylvania's aggressive approach at the plate was again on display on Sunday, a staple of the team and the philosophy of manager Tom Peifer, assistant coach Bret Wagner and his brother, Kyle Wagner, as David Jones of PennLive.com learned:

"

Wagner doesn't teach his hitters a "strike zone." He prefers referencing a "smash zone," emphasizing not where an umpire would call a taken pitch but the area where his hitters can drive a ball. It's different for each kid and as large as they can make it:

"We want our hitters to prove to themselves what balls they can and can't put the barrels on. We don't want them being told by a coach some arbitrary strike zone they can and can't handle. Our most athletic kids have a bigger smash zone."

"

The philosophy has certainly worked for Red Land to this point. Don't expect it to suddenly become tentative at the plate when it opens at the Little League World Series on Friday against Webb City Little League out of Missouri.
