Jamaal Charles, Darrin Reaves' Fantasy Outlook After Knile Davis' Knee Injury

Alec NathanAug 15, 2015

Kansas City Chiefs backup running back Knile Davis suffered a sprained knee Saturday night against the Arizona Cardinals, according to KCChiefs.com's BJ Kissel, which thrust Darrin Reaves into a bigger role in the team's preseason opener.

Here's a look at how Reaves and Davis fared against the Cardinals as Jamaal Charles was given the night off to rest:

Reaves flashed some skill Saturday night, but the second-year running back isn't remotely close to being on the fantasy radar with Davis due back soon.

According to the Kansas City Star's Vahe Gregorian, Davis is only expected to miss a few days with the knee sprain.

Therefore, owners should continue to key on Davis as a high-upside handcuff late in drafts if they're fortunate enough to grab Charles.

The outlook stays the same for Charles too. While an extended absence from Davis could have meant a heavier workload for the Chiefs stud to start the season, the team appears to be keen on giving its offensive centerpiece a few more breathers as long as Davis is available.

"You want to make sure he is healthy late in the season," offensive coordinator Doug Pederson said of Charles on Aug. 3, according to the Associated Press' Dave Skretta, "so if that means giving a guy like Knile Davis some reps—whatever you have to do, number one, to keep him healthy for 16 games, and you do that each week."

Although Charles may lose a couple of carries a game to Davis, he's still an RB1 of the highest caliber.

As for Davis, the third-year runner is in line to top the 463 yards and six touchdowns he posted a year ago with his responsibilities set to expand just a bit.
