WWE SummerSlam 2015: Early Predictions for Top Matches on the Card

Donald WoodAug 14, 2015

The 2015 edition of WWE’s SummerSlam pay-per-view is set to take place on Aug. 23, and excitement for the stacked card has wrestling fans ready to witness the action.

From Brock Lesnar squaring off against Undertaker to Seth Rollins taking on John Cena in a champion-versus-champion bout, the August PPV has the talent on the card to live up to its billing as WWE’s second-most important event of the year.

Here are the early predictions for top matches on the 2015 SummerSlam card.

Brock Lesnar Will Defeat Undertaker

The match with the greatest number of possible outcomes is the main event between Brock Lesnar and Undertaker. As much as everyone has an opinion on who will win and why, the WWE Universe is justifiably split down the middle.

The key will be some kind of interference. The possibilities for a run-in are endless, though.

The most interesting concept would involve Undertaker and Lesnar putting on a great match, fully making up for the issues they faced at WrestleMania 30. The lights could go out as the finish approaches, and a masked Kane could arrive to help his brother and get vengeance on the man who broke his ankle.

With the odds stacked against Lesnar and the Brothers of Destruction beating him down, the lights could go dark again. This time, the man who appears in the ring would be Sting, and the Vigilante would help clear the ring of Kane before standing toe-to-toe with Undertaker.

Lesnar could stand up behind Undertaker, hit him with the F-5 and pin him thanks to the distraction from Sting. This would set up a feud between Undertaker and Sting for WrestleMania, help keep Lesnar strong and build excitement for the product moving forward.

Seth Rollins vs. John Cena Will End as a No-Contest

After Triple H built suspense that Cena could miss SummerSlam because of his broken nose, the 15-time champion announced on Tough Enough that he would be ready to square off against Rollins in a title-versus-title match.

With both the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the United States Championship on the line, there is little doubt this bout will end in a disqualification or a no-contest.

Cena has brought prestige back to the U.S. title despite beating many of the up-and-coming stars in the business since winning the belt at WrestleMania in March. It wouldn’t make much sense right now to move him back to the main event scene, as he is doing a great job building and legitimizing the midcard.

On the other hand, as poorly as Rollins has been booked, he is a stud in the ring and has emerged as one of the best talkers in the business. His run as champion hasn’t been great, but he has still been given the chance to shine and run with it. Taking the title off him now would hurt him far worse than if he were to simply retain the belt in a fluky fashion.

The ultimate X-factor at SummerSlam will be Sheamus. With the Money in the Bank briefcase holder teasing a cash-in attempt on Monday and WWE needing a way out of the title match, Sheamus causing a DQ finish and being thwarted by Cena before he cashes in is the most likely outcome.

Kevin Owens Will Defeat Cesaro

The battle between Kevin Owens and Cesaro will arguably be the best match of the night, but it is imperative Owens walks out of the PPV with the victory.

Owens is coming off back-to-back PPV losses to Cena, and he will likely end up losing to Finn Balor in the NXT Championship bout at TakeOver the night before SummerSlam.

Cesaro is on the rise as a babyface, and he should continue to take the number of losses he has over the last several weeks, but it’s easy to give Owens a cheap or tainted victory. The WWE Universe seeing Cesaro get cheated out of a win would build even more sympathy.

While this bout deserves a stipulation or some kind of long-term ramification such as a No. 1 contendership, there are few wrestling fans who aren’t salivating over seeing Owens steal a victory over Cesaro.
