WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from August 12

Erik BeastonAug 13, 2015

For Bayley, a victory over Becky Lynch in a No. 1 Contender's match on Wednesday's broadcast signified the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. It was the moment she went from an immensely popular, bubbly babyface to a legitimate contender to defeat Sasha Banks and win the NXT Women's Championship.

It is a title that has eluded the Californian to this point.

She has had opportunities to wrest that title away from great wrestlers, such as Charlotte, but has proved incapable of doing so.

This time feels different. Surging at the right time and prepping for a title bout with someone whose focus is on Team BAD and her run on the main roster, Bayley is the favorite to leave Brooklyn with her first championship reign.

For someone as connected with the audience as she is, Bayley's title victory is long overdue. Wednesday night's win was the final step on her way to championship glory.

The win over Lynch came in a fantastic match that featured tremendous in-ring psychology and storytelling from two superbly talented workers.

Now, just one step away from capturing one of the most prestigious titles in wrestling, Bayley was the undisputed biggest winner from the August 12 episode of NXT.

Who else emerged from the broadcast as winners, and which Superstar was not so lucky?

Winner: Kevin Owens

The best heel in WWE attacked Finn Balor following the NXT champion's victory over Marcus Louis and left him lying in the center of the ring following the Pop-Up Powerbomb. There was nothing particularly inspired about that bit of booking, but it was what the Canadian-born star did next that earned him this spot.

Owens grabbed the NXT Championship and laid it across the prone body of his rival. To add further insult to injury, he stepped on the fallen champion as if he was less than human.

It was a brilliant but understated performance by Owens.

Despite a bumpy run on Raw over the last month, falling into the midcard and becoming just another guy, Owens has remained the vile villain he earned rave reviews for in NXT.

Loser: Solomon Crowe

There was a time when Crowe was hyped as being the next big star in NXT.

That time has come and gone. He is little more than a glorified jobber at this point, as evidenced by his loss to Tye Dillinger on Wednesday's broadcast.

For whatever reason, the former Indie star has struggled mightily to maintain the trust and support of management, leading him to fall out of favor and into the unenviable spot he finds himself in.

Like Chris Hero (Kassius Ohno), Crowe is the rare independent star who has struggled to make it at the next level, at least to this point, and would likely benefit from a release.

Winner: Baron Corbin

After months of squash matches, Corbin spoke up about his frustration with the same boring result. Then, he was confronted by Samoa Joe and did his best cowardly heel impersonation, backing off from a fight with Joe. He then sneak-attacked the former Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling star, only to end up the victim of the Coquina Clutch.

It was a great deal of character development for someone whose main claim to the fame was his ability to demolish opposition in mere seconds.

With a huge match against Joe slated for TakeOver, Corbin should continue what has been an unexpected and organic heel turn. In fact, with Owens populating the main roster, the former Arizona Cardinal has the opportunity to become a legitimate main event heel for NXT.
