Conor McGregor Open to Floyd Mayweather Boxing Fight Rematch After UFC Return vs. Max Holloway
Conor McGregor has a return to UFC to worry about first, but he is open to returning to the boxing ring to fight all-time great Floyd Mayweather once again.
"Yeah, for sure [I'm interested in a rematch]," he told TMZ Sports. " … There's conversations ongoing always... That's the truth. So, I'm open for it."
They fought in 2017 with Mayweather earning a 10th-round technical knockout in a fight that was closer than many expected considering McGregor was a career MMA fighter going up against a boxing legend.
McGregor actually landed an impressive uppercut on Mayweather in the early going of that fight and built some momentum before the boxer finally seized control in the middle rounds. By the 10th round, it was clear who was going to win.
Mayweather ultimately used an offensive barrage in that final round to win it, which improved his record to 50-0.
Before preparing for another boxing matchup, though, McGregor is returning to the Octagon for his first professional fight in five years.
He will face Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday in a showdown between former featherweight champions. It is also a rematch of an August 2013 fight between the two headline names.
McGregor won that one by unanimous decision and will look for a similar result this time around.
