New LeBron James Rumors Update Contract Decision Timeline Amid Cavs, Heat Buzz in NBA Free Agency
Plenty of NBA teams are planning their offseason moves based on LeBron James' free agency decision, but it could be a while before the veteran picks his next team.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported on A Must Win Game that James is not expected to make a decision this week.
"More people than not that I speak to do not expect a resolution this week," Stein said (10:00 mark). "The feeling is that this is going to seep into Summer League and will last until at least next week."

James' agent, Rich Paul,Ā laid outĀ possible landing spots for the all-time great on his podcast last week, noting the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks as options.
ESPN'sĀ Shams CharaniaĀ reported Tuesday that the Cavaliers, Heat and 76ers are "the teams that continue to come up." ESPN'sĀ Brian Windhorst, who has closely covered James for much of his career, said earlier this week that "the vibes are pointing towards Cleveland."
But any team hoping to pitch to James might not have the chance to meet with him. NBA insiderĀ Chris HaynesĀ reported Monday that James' agent will meet with teams and then report his thoughts back to James.
Given that information, it's easy to see why it could take a while for James to reach a decision.
While it initially seemed like James was hoping to stay close to his home in Los Angeles, it now appears that he's willing to move further away if it's the right fit.
The Cavs make plenty of sense for James given his history with the team and the fact that his hometown is close by. It would be the perfect place for James to close out his career, and he'd still get to play for a competitive team.
James, of course, has history with the Heat as well, and a pairing of him and Giannis Antetokounmpo would make for one of the best duos in the league.
The 76ers also have an enticing roster after adding Jaylen Brown alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
But it's still relatively early in the offseason, and James could likely be swayed in the coming weeks. Until he makes a decision, teams will look to put together strong pitches to lure the four-time MVP to their respective cities.
