Eva Carneiro Reportedly Braced for Chelsea Axe After Jose Mourinho Outburst
Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro is reportedly in danger of losing her place with the club after receiving public backlash from Blues manager Jose Mourinho following a season-opening draw with Swansea City over the weekend.
Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph reports Carneiro's role has already been changed. She's no longer expected to attend training sessions or matches and won't travel to the team's hotel. It's unclear whether she will accept the lesser duties, which is mostly restricted to work at the training ground.
The report notes a rift between the sides steadily grew throughout the summer as Mourinho sought improvement to the club's medical record this term. After Carneiro entered the pitch to treat Eden Hazard against Swansea, the manager spoke out, per Law:

"I wasn't happy with my medical staff because even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game. If you go to the pitch to assist a player, then you must be sure that a player has a serious problem. I was sure that Eden didn't have a serious problem. He had a knock and was very tired.
"
It left the Blues a player down for a short time, and the boss was concerned the lack of players could lead to a Swans goal.
Carneiro posted a Facebook message thanking people for their well wishes after Mourinho's comments: "I would like to thank the general public for their overwhelming support. Really very much appreciated."
Whether or not the changes in Carneiro's role are permanent is unknown. If so, her impact within the club will be greatly reduced moving forward, and it could be difficult for her to accept the new position, especially in terms of being removed from the matchday bench.
Mourinho is always somebody who's going to speak his mind. Criticizing a doctor for treating a seemingly injured player is dangerous territory, though. The health of players always needs to come first, regardless of the situation.
That said, he carries a lot of power at Stamford Bridge, and Carneiro is now paying the price.
