5-Star OL Albert Simien Reveals Commitment Decision Between Notre Dame, LSU, Texas A&M, Nebraska
Albert Simien, a 5-star interior offensive lineman from Sam Houston High School in Louisiana, committed to Notre Dame on Friday, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
He chose the Fighting Irish over LSU, Texas A&M, and Nebraska.
Simien officially made the announcement on SportsCenter:
"Having a head coach like Marcus Freeman is a great thing for the program," Simien said after making his announcement. "Just building that relationship with him in the long run and being a positive figure for me and my family."
He also cited the "all-around tradition of the program" as one of the deciding factors in committing to Notre Dame.
According to 247Sports' Composite Rankings, Simien is the No. 14 overall prospect in the country, the No. 2 player from the state of Louisiana and the No. 2 interior offensive lineman.
Gabe Brooks of the scouting site described him as an "effective drive blocker who flashes power in his hands" who "likely possesses frame length to provide tackle snaps if needed, but projects higher as an IOL who could become a high-major multi-year starter and play beyond college."
Notre Dame currently ranks second in 247Sports' Composite Rankings for the Class of 2027 and has hit the offensive line hard, also bringing aboard 5-star tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola, 4-star tackle James Halter and 3-star tackle Jafckson Hill. It's clear that Freeman wants to win in the trenches, and landing a prospect like Simien will certainly help in that regard.
