Chaz Coleman Reportedly Medically Disqualified from Tennessee Roster After PSU Transfer
Sophomore pass-rusher and Penn State transfer Chaz Coleman is reportedly no longer part of the University of Tennessee's football program.
According to On3.com's Pete Nakos and Chris Low, Coleman has been medically disqualified from playing after he was not present for summer workouts or the second half of Tennessee's spring practice.
On Wednesday, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel told On3.com, "Chaz has been dealing with some things, and we're here to support him. We'll continue to go through that process."
The 19-year-old Coleman was a 4-star recruit and the No. 27 EDGE in his class when he arrived in college, as well as a 4-star transfer and the No. 16 overall player to hit the transfer portal, per 247Sports.
In his lone season at Penn State as a true freshman, Coleman appeared in nine games and recorded eight tackles, one sack, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and one pass defended.
While he was used somewhat sparingly, the 6'4", 240-pound EDGE from Warren, Ohio, showed flashes of his immense potential.
After just one season as the defensive coordinator at Penn State, Jim Knowles left to take that same job at Tennessee after PSU fired head coach James Franklin.
Coleman followed Knowles to Tennessee, giving him a pass-rushing option who he was already familiar with.
However, with Coleman now off the team, Knowles will have to rely on some alternatives, such as Tulane transfer Jordan Norman, who had eight sacks last season for the Green Wave.
The Vols will kick off their 2026 schedule on Sept. 5 when they host FCS program Furman.
