Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Mike Zambidis Fight Called Off Ahead of Exhibition in Greece
Floyd Mayweather Jr. will have to wait a bit longer before he gets to return to the boxing ring.
Per ESPN's Michael Rothstein, federal court records filed Thursday show that Mayweather's exhibition fight against Mike Zambidis in Greece on Saturday has been called off. Mayweather is facing pending litigation in the Southern District of New York from CSI, an events company contracted to hold two of his other fights.
Mayweather announced his fight against Zambidis in March, and it was supposed to be a part of a busy 2026 for the 49-year-old. He had also scheduled an exhibition fight against the legendary Mike Tyson and a rematch against Manny Pacquiao that would be his first professionally sanctioned fight since 2017.
"I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing," Mayweather said at the time of his return to professional competition, per ESPN's Andreas Hale. "From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterwards -- no one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience and generate more money with each event -- [than] my events. And I plan to keep doing it with my global media partner, CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS."
Netflix previously announced that Mayweather's fight against Pacquiao would take place in Las Vegas on Sept. 19:
Zambidis is an 18-time world champion kickboxer who has fought in a whopping 181 kickboxing fights, compiling a record of 157-24 with 87 career wins by knockout. His fight against Mayweather was scheduled to headline a mega-event featuring fights across boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA and freestyle wrestling.
