Sunday Highlights
Troy 12, Ole Miss 8
Ole Miss and Troy were both motivated to keep their seasons alive, and the fireworks happened early and often. In the end, Ole Miss became the first team to be eliminated from Omaha when Troy earned a 12-8 comeback win.
After the Rebels took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Sean Darnell launched a two-run home run in the second inning to tie things up for the Trojans. Ole Miss then built a four-run lead after two-run homers by Brayden Randle and Collin Reuter.
However, Troy chipped away and scored the game's next six runs to take the lead for the first time in the four-run seventh inning.
After Ole Miss cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the frame, Troy answered once again with three runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach. Blake Cavill highlighted the inning with a solo blast.
The victory marked the first CWS win in program history for the Trojans. Troy will try to avoid elimination once again when it returns to action on Tuesday.
North Carolina 5, West Virginia 2
The Tar Heels' fantastic postseason run continued with another win in Omaha.
North Carolina gained the early edge, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, but West Virginia answered, scoring a run in the third and another in the fourth to tie things up.
After a few scoreless innings from both sides, the Tar Heels broke things open in the seventh when Gavin Gallaher hit a triple to score two and an RBI single brought him across to score.
West Virginia started to rally in the bottom of the ninth, getting a pair of runners on with just one out, but the Mountaineers couldn't get anything going.
While North Carolina came away with the win, the Mountaineers are still alive since the tournament operates in a double-elimination format.
