After Calling Out Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm Loses Controversial Fight vs. Han as Scorecards Revealed
Holly Holm lost another tight battle to Stephanie Han, with Han retaining the WBA female lightweight title on Saturday night.
The judges scored it 96-94, 96-94, 95-95 in a majority decision for the champion.
The result was surprising to some, including Holm, given the way in which she turned the tables on Han toward the end of the 10-round contest. She finished with a 107-70 edge in total punches.
"I feel like I won that fight," Holm said, per ESPN's Andreas Hale. "I want to keep fighting if it's fair. It's disheartening when you put that kind of work in. It's kind of frustrating."
Han challenged unified junior welterweight champion Katie Taylor after her victory, which is a matchup that might've awaited Holm if she had come out on top instead.
Given her age (44), the former UFC women's bantamweight champ could have dwindling options inside a boxing ring. Hale floated a possible return to the world of MMA, with Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano both ending their retirements recently.
Holm and Rousey in particular have history as Holm's second-round knockout of the previously unbeaten Rousey put her on the map in 2015.
While it may not come to pass, the two are starting to lay the groundwork for a return encounter.
"I highly doubt she'll ever want a rematch," Holm told MMA Fighting's Damon Martin. "I always have said since the minute the last fight was over, I'll always rematch her. That's always been available."
Rousey responded on Up & Adams to say she'd "f--king clean her clock." She said she's a different fighter in multiple aspects compared to 11 years ago.
Rousey added her priorities are also different, though. She said she doesn't have the same ambition to climb the ladder and chase big-money fights that she once possessed.
This is a door that could be totally closed for Holm as she weighs what's next.
