Top Winners and Losers After Champions League 2026 Final

Joe TanseyMay 30, 2026

Paris Saint-Germain repeated their UEFA Champions League title on Saturday with a 4-3 win on penalties over Arsenal.

The French and English league champions played to a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes before the final went to penalty kicks.

Arsenal dictated the pace of the game after Kai Havertz's sixth-minute opener.

PSG only scored from the penalty spot on Saturday. Ousmane Dembele's 65th-minute penalty leveled the contest and ultimately was the reason why the match went to PKs.

With the win, PSG became the first repeat UCL winner since Real Madrid captured back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017.

Winner: Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique put himself into rarified air with PSG's win on Saturday.

The Spaniard won his third UEFA Champions League title as a coach and second in a row with the French side.

The 56-year-old Spaniard has found a way to get PSG to play at an even higher level on the European stage since Kylian Mbappe departed for Real Madrid.

A year ago, he helped PSG finally earn its first Champions League title.

In 2026, PSG navigated throughout knockout-round matchups against Monaco, Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich before Saturday's triumph against Arsenal.

He's put on a managerial masterclass in the last two seasons and is now one of the most-decorated coaches in continental soccer in the game's history.

Losers: Eberechi Eze and Gabriel

Eberechi Eze and Gabriel missed two of Arsenal's five penalties in the shootout.

Gabriel's miss was the more costly error, as he skied his penalty over the net in the final round of PKs.

The center-back's position in the penalty-taking order was questioned before and after the failed spot kick.

Arsenal still had Noni Madueke available to take a penalty, but the Brazilian center-back was the option as well.

Eze's miss in the second round of PKs was the more egregious miss because of the prolonged buildup to the kick.

Eze paused a few times and waited to see if PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov would react. Nothing happened and Eze pushed his penalty to the right of the net.

The Gabriel miss will haunt Arsenal longer, but the Eze miss is painful as well because of the way in which it transpired.

Winner: Ousmane Dembele

To be honest, none of PSG's top attacking talents had great games.

Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue were met with a ton of resistance by the Arsenal defense. Goncalo Ramos, Bradley Barcola and others off the bench didn't have much success either.

However, Dembele did step up in the most pressurized moment and delivered a goal for PSG.

Dembele sent David Raya the other way and leveled the contest in the 65th minute.

PSG struggled to create high-quality chances all night, but in the one instance it got one, Dembele converted.

That's all PSG needed to push the game into extra time, and then into penalties.

The overall attacking performance could have been much better, but at least PSG's star stepped up when called upon to tie the contest.

Loser: Cristhian Mosquera

Cristhian Mosquera committed the foul that led to PSG's game-levelling penalty.

Mosquera tackled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the left side of the box. That allowed Ousmane Dembele to convert the PK that eventually sent the contest into penalty kicks.

Before the penalty concession, Mosquera held up well on the flank against Kvaratskhelia. The Spaniard started at right-back in place of Jurrien Timber.

Mosquera didn't have time to make up for his error because he was taken off in the 66th minute.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta put together a near-perfect game plan to slow down PSG, which was aided by the early opening goal, but one mistake derailed that plan and allowed PSG to hang around.
