Kyrie Irving Updates Injury Status During Mavs Offseason Amid Rehab From Torn ACL
Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving provided a positive update on his ongoing recovery from his torn ACL in a Friday night livestream.
Irving said in his Twitch stream he is "definitely close to being over at 100 percent" in his ACL recovery, per the Dallas Morning News' Mike Curtis.
"It's been a while now. It's been a year and change," Irving said Friday. "I'm so grateful that I've had the time to heal... and just pushing myself to the limit."
The update comes the day after general manager Mike Schmitz told reporters Irving has been present "almost daily around the facility."
"I can say he's been doing everything human possible to maximize his talent... just to see his approach, and how he's attacking things every day, has been incredibly impressive," Schmitz said Thursday.
Irving sat out the entirety of the 2025-26 season after suffering a torn left ACL on March 3, 2025.
That marked Irving's first time missing a full season, although he has not played more than 60 games in a single campaign since 2019.
He averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 50 games of his last active NBA season, which was marked by the trade of his former teammate Luka Donฤiฤ in February 2025.
Getting Irving back on the court will allow the Mavericks to see how he fits with Cooper Flagg for the first time since selecting the forward at the top of the 2025 NBA draft.
Mavericks president Masai Ujiri recently said he has been having conversations with Irving this offseason about his "fit" on a team that was led by Flagg last season.
"I think Kyrie will fit," Ujiri said on May 20. "I've said it before: There's a huge curiosity in our minds to see how Kyrie fits playing with Cooper Flagg."
Schmitz has alsoย expressed confidence that Flagg will be able to adjust to Irving's return.
HoopsHype'sย Michael Scotto recently reported that "executives around the league will monitor Irving's return to play and fit alongside Flagg" this offseason.
Irving, who turned 34 in March, has one guaranteed season remaining on his contract followed by a player option for 2027-28. That raises questions about his future with the Mavericks, a team undergoing substantial change after parting ways with Anthony Davis, Nico Harrison and Jason Kidd over the last few months.
The sooner the Mavericks can get Irving back on the court, the sooner the team can start testing out what he looks like with Flagg. What that transition looks like could shape Irving's future in Dallas.
