Serena Williams Reportedly 'In Discussions' to Make Tennis Comeback, Full Details Revealed
We may have a date for Serena Williams' much-anticipated return to the court.
According to Russell Fuller of the BBC, Williams is in discussions to play doubles at the HSBC Championships, which begin on June 8.
Per that report, "The American great would need a wildcard, but there are two available for the grass court event."

Williams, 44, last played at the 2022 U.S. Open, bowing out in the third round. The tennis legend won 23 Grand Slam titles, the second most among women in tennis history.
Returning at Queen's Club could mean potential appearances at Wimbledon (starting June 29) and the U.S. Open (starting Aug. 30), where Williams won a combined 13 times.
Since she left the sport, the women's game has cycled through a number of Grand Slam winners. Aryna Sabalenka has the most Grand Slam titles in the past four seasons, with four, followed by Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff (two).
Whereas the men's game has been dominated by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner since the long reign of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal ended—11 of the past 14 Grand Slam titles have been won between those two, with Djokovic winning the other three (but none since 2023)—the women's game has featured far more parity following Williams' prime.
It's unlikely that Williams will play at an elite level upon her return, given her long layoff and age. But having her back on the court will certainly carry with it an enormous amount of hype and anticipation.
