Ronda Rousey Rematch Addressed by Holly Holm After MMA Icon's Historic Win vs. Gina Carano

Paul KasabianMay 27, 2026

After nearly 10 years away from the Octagon, Ronda Rousey returned for one night only on May 16 and defeated fellow MMA legend Gina Carano via first-round submission. Afterward, Rousey made clear that she would head back to retirement following the match (2:40 mark).

Still, if Rousey ever changes her mind, former foe Holly Holm told Damon Martin of MMA Fighting that she'd be interested in a rematch.

"Yes, a lot of talk with the Ronda fight," Holm told MMA Fighting. "I highly doubt she'll ever want a rematch. I always have said since the minute the last fight was over, I'll always rematch her. That's always been available."

Holm made clear, though, that she certainly wouldn't hold it against Rousey if a rematch fails to transpire.

"But she wanted to come back and have this win and go back and enjoy and have a win like that. No hate from me. I hope she does well. I hope she does whatever she wants with her life. That's her life. I'd always be open to fight her again."

Rousey was a tremendous machine in the Octagon who routinely destroyed her opponents. She went 12-0 to start her MMA career, and 11 of those matches ended in the first round. In fact, eight of those fights didn't even last one minute.

Rousey was a massive favorite again heading into her UFC women's bantamweight title fight against Holm in Nov. 2015, but remarkably, Holm defeated the champion via a second-round knockout.

Rousey fought one more time in UFC, falling to Amanda Nunes via first-round TKO in an effort to win her old bantamweight belt back. Still, no one can ever deny her tremendous run, and Rousey became the first-ever female fighter inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018.

Rousey-Holm II doesn't appear to be happening, but Holm is still fighting. She just faced Stephanie Han last January in the boxing ring and fell via seventh-round technical decision, but Holm is phenomenal in her own right, going 34-3-3 in the boxing ring and 15-7 (one no-contest) in MMA.
