Sol Ruca Beats Becky Lynch for WWE Women's IC Title at Clash in Italy After SNME Controversy
Sol Ruca beat Becky Lynch at Clash in Italy on Sunday to win the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship.
Lynch tried to use every trick in the book to retain her title, but Ruca landed her signature Sol Snatcher finisher to earn her first career main roster championship.
After taking the easy way out in her match against Ruca at Saturday Night's Main Event last weekend, Lynch was tasked with putting her title on the line at Clash in Italy.
A few weeks ago, The Man interrupted Sol's Raw contract signing after getting called up from NXT. Lynch claimed Ruca had stolen time she has set aside for a celebration, but Raw general manager Adam Pearce begged to differ.
Frustrated by what she perceived as disrespect by Ruca, Lynch attempted to punch her, but she struck Pearce instead, and Sol took advantage by hitting The Man with a Sol Snatcher.
Following that heated exchange, Ruca pushed for a match against Lynch. Although The Man was resistant at first, she ultimately agreed to face Sol at Saturday Night's Main Event, but she refused to put the Women's Intercontinental Championship on the line.
Ruca nearly hit Lynch with another Sol Snatcher during their SNME match, but in order to avoid it, The Man pulled referee Jessika Carr into harm's way.
As a result, Carr ended the match right then and there, ruling the bout a disqualification victory for Sol.
Furious over her belief that Ruca was going to be the one who was disqualified after she also made contact with the official, Lynch took her frustrations out on Sol after the match.
Lynch viciously attacked Ruca with a flurry of punches and multiple Manhandle Slams, leaving her incapacitated in the middle of the ring.
Given the controversial ending, Pearce acted quickly to grant Ruca a title match at Clash in Italy. While Lynch wasn't happy about it, she took solace in the fact that Sol would be operating at less than 100 percent because of the attack.
Even so, Ruca scored the biggest victory of her career on Sunday, defeating Lynch to win her first title since getting called up to the main roster.
