MJF, Mick Foley and the Real Winners and Losers of AEW Double or Nothing Match Card

Kevin BergeMay 25, 2026

The first-ever All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view was Double or Nothing 2019, and this show has remained one of the biggest shows of the year every year since.

From the much-anticipated rematches of Darby Allin vs. MJF and Konosuke Takeshita vs, Kazuchika Okada to the return of Stadium Stampede and the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, this was an important night.

Those who stood out could set their path to All In in Wembley Stadium. Those that struggled might not make it back on PPV during the busiest season for AEW.

The following are the real winners and losers from all of the Double or Nothing action.

Winner: Mick Foley

Mick Foley

At 60 years old with so many miles on his body, Mick Foley has not stepped in a ring since 2019.

While he is likely never going to be healthy enough to wrestle again, it was great for fans to see the legend back in a wrestling ring, talking again.

His first focus was to hype Double or Nothing, but Foley's true importance was revealed near the end of the Buy In.

His main event hype talk was interrupted by MJF, giving Foley a chance to talk down The Salt of the Earth's attitude.

He even took a light low blow bump before hyping up the need for Darby Allin to beat MJF.

This was an all-around great use of the legend, who has played a similar role in the past in WWE and can serve as a hype man in AEW hopefully for years to come.

Winner: Adam Copeland

Adam Copeland

From the beginning of Adam Copeland's run in AEW, he has sold that his goal was to hold the AEW Tag Team Championships with Christian Cage.

It took a while for the two to get to this point, but the two best friends are the top tag team in wrestling once again.

The veterans delivered a career-highlight match and defeated their biggest team rivals of their AEW careers.

He also got to celebrate with his wife Beth, appearing for just the second time in AEW for this career highlight.

Anything after this moment is icing on the cake for The Rated-R Superstar, who has plenty of exciting tag teams to face on the road to Forbidden Door and All In.

Loser: FTR

3 of 11

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler called their shot attacking Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.

This was a declaration of war that FTR ultimately lost. Double or Nothing could have been the end of Cage and Cope. Instead, this night gave them their ultimate moment of victory.

FTR will need to figure out how to rebound from this personal and professional loss during the most crucial time of the year for AEW.

All of the bravado of Dax and Cash could have been shattered by this one result.

Winner and Loser: Konosuke Takeshita

Konosuke Takeshita

Konosuke Takeshita just experienced the best and worst day of his professional career back-to-back.

After all the build-up, The Alpha did not just defeat Kazuchika Okada. He overwhelmed him.

Takeshita was simply the better man, defeating one of the all-time great big-match wrestlers on one of the biggest stages possible.

The Alpha stood tall as the International champion after defeating one of the greatest Japanese wrestlers of all time, yet he did not walk out looking victorious.

The vicious betrayal of Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis was a long time coming, but from Takeshita's perspective, nothing was ever more shocking.

He lost his best friend and mentor on one night, and now Takeshita stands alone against the absurdly large Callis Family.

Loser: Mina Shirakawa

Few have bet on their own success to come than Mina Shirakawa, but that bet has not paid off.

Once again, she fell short. This time, she lost in the women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament to the woman that previously injured her.

This was a tough loss for Mina, who is likely out of the world title scene for a long time to come.

Meanwhile, Athena remains The Forever Champion in ROH but could be on track to win AEW's top women's championship.

Winner: Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley

While Kyle O'Reilly was the challenger in this match, AEW set him up as the favorite due to his multiple victories over Jon Moxley.

Not only did Mox avenge those losses in victory but also manages to make the man tap out that made him tap out last year.

It was a great match all around that ended with both men shaking hands despite their past issues.

Mox has conquered all of the biggest threats to his Continental Championship reign, at least the most apparent ones following last year's C2.

It seems likely that champion will make it to the C2 as champion at this stage, which gives him and The Death Riders' lasting credibility for the rest of 2026.

Winner: Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay has talked in the past about his wrestling inspirations, highlighting the importance of the Unbreakable 2005 triple threat (as per his interview with Denise Salcedo).

In particular, The Aerial Assassin credits the three men in that match: AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe.

For this reason, a match with any of those men was always an Ospreay dream match, and he finally got to fight The Samoan Submission Machine at Double or Nothing.

Outside of Joe's incredible fights with Darby Allin, Ospreay may have given Joe his best AEW match, selling the intense threat of Joe even as he reaches the twilight of his career.

Moreover, The Aerial Assassin won his first match of the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, moving one step closer to main eventing All In 2026 in Wembley Stadium.

Loser: Bandido

8 of 11

Bandido has been ROH world champion for over 400 days, but he remains unable to win the big one in AEW.

There was a legitimate argument for Bandido to defeat Swerve Strickland, taking that next step forward to the top of the company.

While The Mogul is still on the hunt for his second world title, Bandido needs that definitive moment to solidify him as more than an ROH guy.

He did not get that at Double or Nothing despite a great match against Swerve.

When will the time come? It looks distant at this stage and likely means that Bandido will go back to focusing on his ROH World Championship into All In season.

Winner: Thekla

Thekla AEW
Thekla

If "Timeless" Toni Storm was still around, she could have warned Thekla that Fatal 4-Way matches can be the end of an AEW Women's World Championship reign.

Up against three former world champions that could have easily carried the gold into All In, The Toxic Spider emerged victorious.

This is a great sign that Thekla will be walking into Wembley Stadium as world champion, awaiting the winner of the women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

This was an especially important milestone victory as Thekla made her AEW debut just days after Double or Nothing 2025.

No one could have predicted that Thekla would become the top woman in the company in just one year, but she is undeniable now.

Winner: MJF

10 of 11

MJF almost lost everything at Double or Nothing. The Salt of the Earth had to put his hair on the line to get back his Triple B, the AEW Men's World Championship.

Luckily for MJF, Darby Allin flew too close to the sun with his unreal title defense pace and was not healthy enough to keep fighting in an intense world title match.

With this victory, The Salt of the Earth is a rare three-time AEW world champion, and he is likely on the road to All In as the top champion.

This is as clear a statement as possible by AEW that MJF remains the top man in the company, and it will be difficult for anyone to topple him.

That said, the future is still bright for The Daredevil, who just pushed himself a little too hard.

Winner: Darby Allin

Darby Allin AEW
Darby Allin

When Darby Allin shockingly dethroned MJF on the Dynamite immediately following Dynasty, many doubted if The Daredevil was ready to carry AEW forward.

From week one as champion though, Allin has proved time and again that he is the right man to carry the torch.

He defended the world championship at an unreal pace, fighting multiple times a week on the road to Double or Nothing.

Even in a loss, Allin still proved he was worthy of the role of AEW standard bearer and made clear his time will come again.

Two Pillars of AEW main evented Double or Nothing, and they solidified themselves as the present top men of AEW.
