The top-seeded Georgia Bulldogs scored a total of four runs in the seventh and eighth innings to shock No. 5 Florida in the semifinals of the 2026 SEC baseball tourney on Saturday.
Florida rushed out to a 6-0 lead through three innings on the strength of a five-run third.
The Gators jumped out to a 1-0 advantage with a solo home run by left fielder Blake Cyr in the first inning before putting up a crooked number in the third inning and putting the Bulldogs back on their heels:
Cyr delivered a two-run single to give him three RBI on the day, and designated hitter Caden McDonald blasted a three-run homer to extend the lead to 6-0:
Georgia started to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning, though, with three runs thanks to a sacrifice fly and a pair of RBI doubles from shortstop Kolby Branch and right fielder Ryan Black:
Another Georgia run came in via a wild pitch in the fifth inning, shrinking Florida's lead to 6-4.
After Florida got the lead back to three on an RBI single by Cyr in the top of the seventh, the Bulldogs took over the game.
A two-run double by left fielder Kenny Ishikawa following a rain delay in the bottom of the seventh got Georgia within one run of the lead:
Then, after Branch reached on an error and Black hit a double in the bottom of the eighth, a pair of sacrifice flies by third baseman Tre Phelps and catcher Daniel Jackson gave the Dawgs an 8-7 lead:
Justin Byrd shut the door on the Gators in the top of the ninth, finishing with no hits or walks allowed, plus two strikeouts in two innings of work.
Georgia spoiled a spectacular performance by Cyr, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, and the depth of the Bulldogs' lineup came through, as five players had multiple hits and six had at least one RBI.
