Fred Kerley Vows to Break Usain Bolt's World Record, Win $1M+ While Clean at Enhanced Games

Adam WellsMay 23, 2026

Two-time Olympic medalist Fred Kerley isn't lacking confidence as he prepares to compete at the Enhanced Games, while saying he is not taking any performance-enhancing substances.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Enhanced Games, Kerley promised that Usain Bolt's world-record time of 9.58 seconds in the 100 meters would be "destroyed" by him on Saturday as he seeks a $1 million bonus prize.

"It's going to be destroyed," Kerley said.

The American doesn't have an exact time in mind, only vowing that he is going to run "fast."

Kerley also emphasized that he is going to be running clean, even though the Enhanced Games does allow for athletes to take performance-enhancing substances.

"I don't need it," he said. "God gave me fast feet for a reason. I'm here to showcase my talent. You still have to work. Drugs aren't going to give you an advantage if you're not putting the work in."

The winner of each race receives a $250,000 prize for finishing first, but the event organizers have also put a $1 million bonus in every event if an athlete breaks the current world record.

Kerley is currently serving a two-year suspension issued in March by the Athletics Integrity Unit after he missed multiple drug tests from May through December 2024. His suspension was backdated to August 2025 runs through Aug. 11, 2027.

Amid his current ban from World Athletics events, Kerley was announced in September as a participant in the Enhanced Games.

ESPN's Dan Murphy noted athletes who take part in the event do have to pass a medical screening, but they are not subject to drug testing.

Kerley also insisted on Saturday that he intends to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said in 2024 that anyone who takes part in the Enhanced Games would be "banned for a long time."

The 31-year-old Kerley represented the United States at the Olympics in 2020 and 2024. He won silver in the 100 meters at the Tokyo Games, then followed it up with a bronze medal in 2024.

If Kerley intends to break Bolt's world record, set in 2009, he will need to shave off a lot of time from his own personal best in the 100 meters. His best time is 9.76 seconds at the 2022 US Outdoor Championships.
