Friday Highlights
Germany 6, Hungary 2
Germany claimed their first win of the tournament in decisive fashion.
The Germans followed up a two-goal first period by scoring twice in the final minute of the second.
Leon Gawanke helped close out the victory by completing his hat trick in the third period.
Marc Michaelis led his team with three assists in the win.
Germany outshot Hungary 37-12, including a dominant second period during which the Germans led 20-2 in shots.
Canada 3, Slovenia 1
Goals from three different scorers and 12 saves from Jet Greaves helped Canada stay on top of Group B with a win over Slovenia.
Denton Mateychuk got Canada on the board midway through the first period, while Dylan Cozens and Emmitt Finnie scored in the next two frames.
Rozle Bohnic spoiled Greaves' shutout late in the third before Slovenia conceded the loss.
Canada finished out the win having outshot their opponents 32-14.
Finland 4, Great Britain 0
Finland remained undefeated and chipped away at Switzerland's goal-deficit lead over Group A with a shutout of Great Britain.
Ville Heinola started out the game by scoring just one minute into play, then tallied again in the second period to pad the lead.
Henri Jokiharju extended the Finns' advantage to 4-0 late in the third period.
All four Finland goals were scored by defensemen. The Finns finished the game having outshot Great Britain 47-9 as Joonas Korpisalo recorded the shutout.
Sweden 3, Italy 0
Italy is still looking for its first win of the tournament after conceding a shutout loss to Sweden.
Carl Grundstrom opened scoring on Friday for the Swedes before Ivar Stenberg added an insurance tally on a power play late in the first period.
Stenberg got on the board again on a feed from Viggo Bjorck midway through the second period.
Sweden recorded 34 shots as Magnus Hellberg made 12 saves in his shutout.
The preliminary round of IIHF Worlds continues Friday in Switzerland, beginning with a 6:20 a.m. ET matchup between the United States and Latvia.
