Cowboys' Stadium to Use Curtains at FIFA World Cup 2026 After Sunlight Complaints During NFL Games
One of the biggest complaints players have with AT&T Stadium is the glaring afternoon sun that comes through the west-facing windows, blinding quarterbacks and receivers.
While Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may have no plans to address the issue, FIFA is taking action ahead of the World Cup.
Per The Athletic's Amos Morale II and Adam Crafton, AT&T Stadium will have curtains blocking the windows for the group stage match between Japan and Sweden on June 25. That match will be played at 7 p.m. ET.
A number of NFL players have voiced their opinion about the sunlight that comes through the windows at the home of the Cowboys, and the frustration isn't limited to opposing teams.
During a game against the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2024 season, Cowboys star receiver CeeDee Lamb missed what looked like an easy touchdown grab because he "couldn't see the ball." Lamb also said that he would be "one-thousand percent" in favor of adding curtains.
George Pickens also dropped a pass during a Thanksgiving game against the Kansas City Chiefs because he was blinded by the sun.
Jones said during the 2024 campaign that the glaring sun is far from his biggest concern.
"Of all the things that we need to improve, that is way down the list of improvement. That stadium was built to feel like you're outdoors," he told reporters. "It's the largest air-conditioned space in the world. My biggest thought when we were building it was ... make it look like it was outdoors."
Perhaps seeing curtains on the window during the World Cup will change Jones' mind, but it seems as if he's set in his opinion about the sunlight.
