What Do George Pickens, Patrick Mahomes Think About Cowboys' Stadium Sunlight Issue?

Timothy RappNov 27, 2025

Dallas Cowboys wideout George Pickens failed to catch a pass in the second quarter of Thursday's matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs that would have otherwise been an easy grab if he weren't being blinded by the sun.

That made him the latest victim of AT&T Stadium's glass doors on the West end of the stadium, which allows sunlight to come pouring onto the field and often blind players in the process.

"It definitely did," Pickens told reporters after the game while discussing whether the sun impacted that particular play. "Some of the guys told me, too. That was my first time having that. Just coming on the crossing route, the sun was beating in my eyes, so I couldn't see. But made up for it."

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had to deal with it as well.

"It's just when you play some games. ... I played baseball growing up, the sun's part of it," he told reporters after the game. "Just got to find those guys whenever you're scrambling, and make those throws."

As the Associated Press noted, "The stadium has an unusual east-west alignment from end zone to end zone, as opposed to most venues being north-south. So on clear days, such as Thursday, the sun shines through the west-end windows during portions of games that kick off later in the afternoon."

It's played such big part in past Cowboys games that Lamb told reporters last season that the organization should "one thousand percent" put up curtains on that end of the field.

Pickens concurred on Sunday.

"Yeah, I mean, definitely. But that's up to [team owner Jerry Jones]. But definitely curtains would help," he said. "I really couldn't see the ball. It was the sun. Like I said, I always bounce back. Kind of like CeeDee bounced back from last week to this week. All you can do is just one foot forward, keep getting better."

Ultimately, the Cowboys won 31-24, improving to 6-5-1, so the sun didn't spoil Dallas' evening. But it remains an issue that would be fairly easy to rectify if Jones wasn't so stubbornly opposed to changing the current setup.
