NBA L2M Report Says Knicks Shouldn't Have Gotten Ball Before Clutch Landry Shamet Shot vs. Cavs
The NBA determined that the Cleveland Cavaliers should have received another possession late in the fourth quarter of the team's 115-104 loss to the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Tuesday.
The league released itsย Last Two Minute Reportย for the game in which a ball out of bounds that was initially ruled to be last touched by the Cavs was corrected to be last touched by Knicks forward OG Anunoby.
"Possession is awarded to the Knicks," the report read. "Anunoby is the last player to touch the ball prior to it going out of bounds, possession should have been awarded to the Cavaliers."
Cleveland held a 99-96 lead with one minute left in the fourth quarter at the time before Knicks guard Landry Shamet connected on a game-tying triple following the possession change.
New York went on to win in overtime.
The Knicks trailed 93-71 with just under eight minutes left in the fourth before closing the quarter on a 30-8 run that was highlighted by clutch buckets from Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson.
New York opened overtime on another 9-0 run, as a three-pointer from Shamet gave the team a 110-101 advantage.
Cleveland wasn't able to recover, as the Knicks took a 1-0 series lead.
Shamet was a key contributor for New York in the victory, finishing with nine points and one rebound off the bench. He shot 3-of-4 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc.
While theย plus-minusย of aย single game can sometimes be misleading, it's worth noting that the Knicks outscored the Cavs by 25 points in Shamet's 17 minutes on the floor.
Cleveland will now look to bounce back in Game 2 on Thursday. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET.
