Liverpool Transfer News: Brendan Rodgers' Targets Named in Latest Rumours

Stuart NewmanAug 8, 2015

Liverpool are set to face competition in their bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain full-back Lucas Digne, as Serie A giants Roma have reportedly joined the race for his signature.

That’s according to Italian newspaper II Messaggero, which states that Roma have given up on landing Barcelona defender Adriano and moved on to Digne instead—via Uche Amako of the Daily Express.

Digne is said to be after regular first-team football away from the French capital in the bid to rejoin the France national team ahead of Euro 2016.

Liverpool can undoubtedly provide that at left-back, but with Roma offering the 22-year-old Champions League football, Italy could well prove his destination.

The Reds, then, need to convince Digne that Anfield would be best for his career, as it seems the only certainty in this saga is that he’s leaving PSG.

The player’s agent, Mikkel Beck, told Loic Tanzi of Goal.com that his place warming the PSG bench isn’t good enough anymore:

"

It's simple: there are the Euros at end of the season and Lucas will no longer waste time. He wants to re-join the France squad for Euro 2016. And that can only happen with game time. He must be able to play in a big club and, above all, to have a starting spot. Otherwise, it’s not worth leaving PSG.

"

Liverpool already have Jose Enrique and Alberto Moreno as options at left-back, but Digne’s seamless ability to move up to midfield makes him a sensible buy for manager Brendan Rodgers and Co.

Plus, with his fee believed to be around the £5 million mark, it makes plenty of sense on a financial basis.

However, French football journalist Jonathan Johnson has revealed that Digne could be off to Roma on loan very soon:

It’s up to Rodgers to tune his powers of persuasion if he wants the youngster; but Liverpool fans can rest easy knowing their club has done excellent business in the window so far.

Fabio Borini

Outgoings now, as it seems that misfiring striker Fabio Borini has donned the famous red shirt for the last time.

Borini has found chances few and far between at Anfield, and Gazzette dello Sport are reporting that Fiorentina have snapped up his services—via Louis Sealey of Metro.

Sealey writes that the Italian will join Fiorentina on loan for 2015/16 before switching permanently for £4 million next summer, but West Ham United may have other ideas.

According to the Daily Express (h/t Aaron Flanagan of the Daily Mirror), the Hammers have joined the hunt for the 24-year-old forward as a replacement for the injured Enner Valencia.

Valencia will miss a big chunk of the season with a knee injury, leaving Slaven Bilic’s side a little light in the advanced areas.

Liverpool could be reluctant to sell Borini to a fellow Premier League outfit, however, but getting him off the books will be a priority.

The Reds are slowly beginning to look like a side that can challenge for the title once again, with just a few key areas that need tweaking.

And with the likes of Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho in the ranks, they can afford to offload some of the deadwood, too.
