The Czech Republic Eke One Out
In the day's lone close contest, the Czech Republic survived a furious comeback attempt by Sweden, winning 4-3.
The Czechs scored the game's first three goals, all in the first period, only to see Sweden score the next two. The Czechs would then get a much-needed fourth and hold on for dear life, putting them in second place in Group B with seven points. Sweden has just one win in its three contests.
The Czech Republic returns to the ice on Wednesday against Italy, while Sweden will look to get back on track that same day against Slovakia.
Switzerland Prevail in Yet Another Monday Blowout
Behind Sven Andrighetto's two goals and Denis Malgin's goal and two assists, the Swiss remained undefeated at the World, smoking Germany 6-1.
Switzerland put this one away in the second period, scoring five goals. The Swiss will look to remain unbeaten on Wednesday against Austria, while Germany is hoping to pick up its first win that same day against the United States.
Finland Easily Disposes of Team USA
Lenni Hämeenaho's two goals and two assists apiece from Mikko Lehtonen and Olli Määttä helped pace Finland to a dominant 6-2 win over the United States on Monday.
The Fins raced out to a 3-1 lead in the first period, extended it to 5-1 by the second intermission and never looked back, winning comfortably.
Matt Coronato and Ryan Leonard provided the lone moments of joy for the United States in the tough loss.
The Americans will be in action again on Wednesday against Germany, hoping to turn around what has been a rough start at the Worlds. Finland will look to remain undefeated on Thursday when they face Latvia.
Canada Handles Denmark
Led by Sidney Crosby's four assists, Canada knocked off Denmark by a 5-1 margin.
The contest was scoreless through two periods before Canada exploded in a wild third frame. Philadelphia Flyers' rookie phenom Porter Martone was among the team's goal-scorers.
Up next for the undefeated Canadiens is a tilt against Norway on Thursday. Winless Denmark faces Slovakia that same day.
