Preakness Results 2026 Winner, Payouts and Order of Finish
Napoleon Solo won the second leg of the Triple Crown, taking home the 2026 Preakness Stakes title with an impressive run down the homestretch to finish in 1:58.69 on Saturday.
Jockeyed by Paco Lopez, Napoleon Solo was fighting with Taj Mahal for most of the first three-quarters of the race. He then took control after the final turn, as Taj Mahal faded spectacularly.

Napoleon Solo did not stand out as a top-tier contender in the Preakness entering Saturday. He had two starts this year, finishing fifth both times, and his last victory came in the one-mile race at the Champagne Stakes in October 2025.
Some of the drama around the Preakness was taken away when Golden Tempo, coming off a surprise victory at the Kentucky Derby, was revealed to not be running at Laurel Park.
It's becoming a more common practice for the Kentucky Derby winner to skip the Preakness, in part due to the quick two-week turnaround time.
Taking Golden Tempo out of the field did open things up for new contenders to take center stage. Taj Mahal, who did not run at Churchill Downs to prepare for the Preakness, was a slight favorite at post time in a crowded field.
Another key storyline entering the race was how the track would play. Since Pimlico is undergoing a major renovation project, the race was held at Laurel Park.
The dimensions of Laurel Park are notably different, including a slightly shorter homestretch. It's also 25 feet wider than Pimlico, giving the jockeys more space to utilize.
The unique track dimensions did not impact Lopez as he navigated Napoleon Solo from the 10th gate to the front of the pack.
As a result of his terrific run, Lopez earned the biggest win of his career. The 40-year-old did have a Breeders' Cup Sprint victory on his resume from 2018, but Saturday marked his first time winning a Triple Crown race.
Iron Honor was able to salvage a second-place finish. He got within 1.25 lengths of Napoleon Solo as they fought for position down the stretch, but there wasn't enough time for him to close the gap.
It has been an inconsistent year so far for Iron Honor, who followed up a win at the Gotham Stakes in February with a seventh-place finish at the Wood Memorial. Saturday was a step back in the right direction for the three-year-old colt.
Due to the lack of a clear favorite and no one going for the Triple Crown, there was an air of unpredictability to the Preakness this year. The actual race stuck to that script, with a largely unheralded horse in Napoleon Solo etching his name into history by capturing a win.
The Triple Crown season will wrap up with the Belmont Stakes on June 6.
