Jon Rahm Apologizes for Hitting PGA Championship Volunteer with Divot During Round 1
After accidentally hitting a PGA Championship volunteer with a divot on Thursday, Jon Rahm apologized.
"I couldn't feel any worse," Rahm said, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "That's why I was there apologizing. I need to somehow track him down to give him a present because that's inexcusable and for something that could be completely avoidable. Whether it was my intention or not, it was just not good."
After a bad approach shot on the seventh hole at Aronimink Golf Club, Rahm swung his club in frustration, which caused a divot to hit a nearby volunteer in the face.
"I got a flyer on my second shot that went long," Rahm said. "It's not a good spot. Just out of frustration, I tried to make an air swing, just over the grass, and I wasn't looking. [I] took a divot, and unfortunately, I hit a volunteer."
Rahm immediately walked over to the volunteer to apologize and make sure he was OK.
Rahm finished the day 1-under par 70, tied for 15th place heading into Friday.
