Rory McIlroy Admits 'I'm Glad I Was Wrong' About PGA Tour-PIF Deal amid LIV Situation
After Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced that it won't be supporting the LIV Golf League after this season, Rory McIlroy is relieved that the PGA Tour never took his advice.
Per ESPN's Mark Schlabach, McIlroy once "urged" the PGA Tour to come to an agreement with the PIF that would've reunified the sport. However, he now admits that it wouldn't have been the right move for the PGA Tour.
"I'm glad I was wrong," McIlroy said during a news conference on Tuesday ahead of this week's PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. "I can admit when I'm wrong, and that was one that I did get wrong."

Schlabach reported that the PIF "has purportedly spent more than $5 billion" to fund LIV Golf since its establishment in June 2022. In a statement on April 30, the PIF said its support of LIV Golf "is no longer consistent with the current phase of PIF's investment strategy."
McIlroy has long been outspoken about his disapproval of LIV Golf, but he added that he'd still like to see men's golf reunify at some point down the line.
"We all have to say, 'OK, this is the starting point and we move forward,'" McIlroy said. "We don't look behind us, we don't look to the past. Whatever's happened has happened and it's been unfortunate, but reunification, how we all come back together and move forward, that's the best thing for everyone. If people are butthurt or have their feelings hurt because guys went or whatever, like, who cares?"
