Jaylen Brown's 'Frustration' With Celtics Discussed by Tracy McGrady in Video After NBA Playoff Exit

Julia StumbaughMay 6, 2026

Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady feels Jaylen Brown is frustrated with the Boston Celtics after his team was eliminated from the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs following a 3-1 series collapse against the Philadelphia 76ers.

"I think his frustration lies deeply within the organization and other things that we don't really have the details to," McGrady said around the 3:30 mark of Tuesday's episode of Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady.

"There's just been a lot of stuff that I've been hearing just going on with the Boston organization, with JB."

McGrady's comments came the same day Brown was fined $50,000 by the NBA for publicly criticizing the Game 7 officiating on a Twitch stream following the Celtics' elimination on Saturday

Brown said on the stream the officials "clearly had an agenda" to target him with more offensive fouls because he had criticized NBA officiating earlier in the regular season.

Despite his harsh criticism of officiating, Brown was largely complimentary of his team when speaking to reporters following the Celtics' Game 7 loss.

When asked if he was looking ahead to next season, Brown answered, "It's tough to think about next year, next season. I've still got emotions just from tonight.

"Overall, I feel like, like I said before, it was a great season. I'm proud of my teammates... I'm so grateful to be with this group. This group was awesome. I had a fun year. This is probably one of my most fun years playing basketball. It wasn't always perfect, it wasn't always analytically, aesthetically pleasing, but we won a lot of basketball games, and people could see the grit."

How Brown feels about sticking with the Celtics going forward could hinge on how he feels about potentially stepping back from the No. 1 role he took on this season when Jayson Tatum returns for his first full season since rupturing his Achilles in March 2025.

Both Brown and Jayson Tatum are signed for at least three more seasons with the Celtics. Tatum, who returned from his injury in March but missed Game 7 with knee soreness, will hope to be fully healthy by the time the Celtics tip off the 2026-27 season this fall.
