New Day's Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods Bid Farewell to WWE in Emotional Posts Following Rumors

Mike ChiariMay 5, 2026

New Day members Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods both took to social media on Monday to reflect on their time in WWE after their reported departures from the company last week.

Kingston and Woods made farewell posts on X within a few minutes of each other, and they both expressed their gratitude toward everyone who helped and supported them over the years:

On Saturday, Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp reported the shocking news that Kingston and Woods had mutually agreed to part ways with WWE.

Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News) later reported that Kingston and Woods decided to leave WWE after being asked to restructure their contracts.

Given that report, Kingston's line of, "Do not ever compromise or accept less than your due when it comes to your worth," stood out within his farewell post.

As a team, New Day were tag team champions a record 12 times in WWE, and most of those reigns for Kofi and Xavier came alongside Big E as well.

When Big E suffered a serious neck injury in 2022, Kingston and Woods proceeded as a duo, and while they enjoyed a modicum of success, they were phased out over time as a featured act and settled into a low-to-mid-card role.

Before their departure, Kingston and Woods were two of the longest-tenured Superstars in WWE.

Kofi had been with the company since 2006 and one the main roster since 2008, and he became one of the most-decorated performers in WWE history as a four-time intercontinental champion, three-time United States champion and 14-time tag team champion, in addition to beating Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35.

Along with his 12 tag team title reigns, Woods was the 2021 King of the Ring, and he created the popular gaming YouTube channel UpUpDownDown during his WWE run, which began in 2010 and graduated to the main roster in 2013.

With Kingston and Woods departing WWE, two-thirds of one of the greatest teams in pro wrestling history is one the market. They figure to be highly sought after, and AEW perhaps makes the most sense as a landing spot because of potential matches against the likes of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, The Young Bucks and FTR.
