WWE NXT's New TV Contract for PLEs Revealed Starting with Great American Bash, Shawn Michaels Reacts
Following a lengthy run on Peacock, NXT premium live events are moving to The CW this summer, starting with the Great American Bash.
According to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, WWE and The CW announced the move Tuesday, noting that 20 NXT PLEs will air on The CW over "the next several years."
The CW has been home to NXT's weekly show since 2024 when the two sides reached a five-year deal for NXT's broadcasting rights.
WWE Hall of Famer and NXT head Shawn Michaels commented on NXT PLEs making the move to The CW as well, saying, "The CW has played an integral role in raising the profile of our up-and-coming Superstars, and we are excited to bring NXT premium live events to broadcast television for the first time ever."
When WWE's streaming deal with Peacock expired, ESPN acquired the streaming rights to the main-roster premium live events, but there was a great deal of uncertainty regarding where NXT PLEs would land.
Earlier this month, NXT Stand & Deliver streamed on YouTube, but that was only a temporary solution before the expansion of WWE's partnership with The CW was reached.
Since its inception as a standalone brand in 2012, NXT has been WWE's developmental territory, and it has played a huge role in molding and preparing many of today's biggest stars.
NXT has gone through several iterations, and the current one is being headed by Michaels, who took over as the lead voice in NXT in 2021, replacing Triple H.
Michaels' elevation coincided with less emphasis on established wrestlers from the independent scene and a greater focus on building up athletes from other sports into viable WWE Superstars.
That strategy has already produced some potential future WrestleMania main eventers, including Oba Femi, Bron Breakker and Trick Williams.
Underscoring NXT's success with regard to preparing wrestlers for the main roster is the fact that numerous NXT stars have been called up to Raw or SmackDown since last year, including Femi, Williams, Je'Von Evans, Jordynne Grace, Ethan Page, Ricky Saints, Fatal Influence, Blake Monroe and Sol Ruca.
NXT champion Tony D'Angelo and NXT women's champion Lola Vice are two of the few NXT veterans who are still with the brand, but with so many call-ups occurring in a short period of time, it should give Michaels a golden opportunity to build new stars at a rapid pace.
