WWE's Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of August 3

Ryan DilbertAug 7, 2015

As August kicked off, it was hard not to soak up the best WWE social media of the week without either getting teary-eyed or cracking up some point.

Fans watched salutes to the late "Rowdy" Roddy Piper with moist eyes. To counterbalance the hurt of seeing a legend go too soon, WWE enthusiasts could head to Twitter, Instagram and YouTube for all kinds of hilarity.

The Rock won Throwback Thursday. Seth Rollins penned the perfect response to the latest "WWE is fake" debate. And once more, Randy Orton and his RKO were central to a must-share clip.

Before we dive into that video or check up on the Superstars' travels to Australia, let's first watch a young cancer patient live out his WWE fantasy.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon invited eight-year-old Elijah Mainville to Monday's Raw. The Stardust fan was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. WWE made him an honorary Superstar, and he signed his contract with Stardust at his side.

The Game shared the touching moment via Twitter:

Triple H's longtime rival did some memorable sharing of his own. In honor of Throwback Thursday, The Rock took us to the days long before he was a pie-eating, jabroni-beating Superstar.

On Instagram, he posted a high school photo of himself, caterpillar mustache and all:

The Rock noted in the caption that "all the kids thought he was an undercover cop." You can't really blame them. He wouldn't exactly blend in at his size and with that TV-detective look.

And while The Great One was busy being a star, WWE made its way Down Under. WWE began a tour of Australia on Thursday. With Hulk Hogan embroiled in controversy, the company found a replacement star to serve as the general manager for the tour: Shawn Michaels.

WWE's Instagram posted a picture of him doing his signature pose for Aussie fans:

Luke Harper headed to Melbourne as well, but with much different intentions. In this Vine video that WWE tweeted of him stomping toward the ring, it sure doesn't feel like he's there to do any posing:

He looks like a monster here. And judging by his history, his match was surely a hard-hitting one.

You won't convince everyone of WWE's physicality, though. Due to its scripted nature, folks too often dismiss the pain and violence that occur in the squared circle. UFC head man Dana White was the latest to dismiss WWE as "fake" (h/t Complex) during the course of a Twitter exchange with fans.

The wrestling industry responded beautifully.

WWE champ Rollins had one of the best tweets on the subject. He simply shrugged White off as a guy who didn't know what he was talking about:

Bully Ray (aka Bubba Dudley) pointed how much White has profited off one particular "fake" wrestler:

And Austin Aries offered his own excellent rebuttal to the UFC boss' comments:

The timing for White to say what he did was strange. One of his top stars, who is a big WWE fan and takes her nickname from Roddy Piper, had just delivered a heartfelt message to Hot Rod.

Ronda Rousey, fresh off blasting her opponent in mere seconds, took time out to say goodbye to Piper. She told Joe Rogan, "I hope him and my dad had a good time watching this today."

WWE stars paid tribute to the rowdy one by donning his famous T-shirt. The company itself put together a tremendous video package to honor his memory:

And if that leaves you with a lump in your throat, you're not alone. WWE did a fine job paying homage to one of its finest performers.

Luckily, all the week's viral videos weren't the kind to leave you with "something in your eye." The folks at Vigeo offered up some comedy starring Randy Orton and some unexpected enemies.

Previous videos have featured The Viper flattening a long list of foes, Superman included, with his RKO. The latest of these pits Orton against The Avengers. The Rock, Iron Man and Shia Labeouf all appear in the hilarious clip:

To be clear, this is fake. When Superstars climb in the ring and wreck their bodies for the sake of entertaining us, that's something else entirely.

That's the unparalleled combination of athleticism, toughness and showmanship that is pro wrestling.
