Trick Williams Wins US Title ‼️
After winning the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships with Paige at WrestleMania 42, Brie Bella spoke out against whoever was responsible for leaking the information that Paige had signed with WWE.
Nikki Bella was unable to compete at WrestleMania due to an ankle injury, which led to the unveiling of Paige as Nikki's surprise replacement. Paige then wrestled her first WWE match since December 2017.
While it was a great moment that yielded a big crowd reaction, it likely would have been even more significant had news of Paige's WWE return not leaked prematurely.
BodySlam.net and PWInsider.com ((h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported on Paige's return, noting that she signed a multi-year deal with WWE and would be Nikki's WrestleMania replacement after being spotted taking part in WrestleMania walkthroughs.
During this week's episode of the Nikki & Brie Show (h/t Carrier), Brie took issue with Paige's return getting leaked prematurely and vowed to find out who was responsible.
"The Paige stuff got leaked from a stooge, and I will find out who saw it earlier in the week," Brie said. "I will say this—you guys, something, just let things be special and a secret. Who runs and tells people? ...
"I will say this—it's actually sad, so look at yourself in the mirror and think about what you will do next time. I'm gonna find that stooge, though, because I remember everyone who was there."
While the leak prevented Paige's return from being a surprise at the level of the Hardy Boyz returning at WrestleMania 33, it was a great moment nonetheless.
Paige was forced into medical retirement in 2017 due to a neck injury, and it seemed possible that she would never wrestle in WWE again, but following a stint in AEW that saw her get cleared, Paige is back in WWE and already in a top spot.
Adding to the excitement is the fact that there is no shortage of quality women's tag teams for Paige and Brie to work with coming out of WrestleMania.
Cargill on Why She Used Omega's Finisher
Jade Cargill raised some eyebrows during Night 2 of WrestleMania 42 when she broke out the One Winged Angel, which is a move made famous by AEW star and executive vice president Kenny Omega.
During an appearance on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez (h/t Carrier), Cargill explained her thought process in using the One Winged Angel against Rhea Ripley, saying, "I've been saving it for a while. I mean, my bag is deep. It just has to have a reason behind it, you know? I just can't pop out stuff, and I thought last night was a perfect time to do it."
Cargill using the move was a hot topic of conversation among wrestling fans on social media, prompting Omega to chime in and insist that he viewed Cargill's usage of the move as a compliment:
While the move only produced a two count and Ripley went on to beat Cargill for the WWE Women's Championship, it was a memorable moment in an entertaining match nonetheless.
Before joining WWE in 2023, Cargill spent a few years in AEW, which is where she first rose to stardom thanks to a lengthy run as the inaugural TBS champion.
Cargill got a firsthand look at Omega and other great in-ring workers, and her use of the One Winged Angel suggests that she picked up some tricks of the trade.
While Cargill's look, strength and aura are undeniable, she has received criticism for her in-ring work at times. Based on her performance on the Grandest Stage of Them All, though, Jade may have silenced many of her doubters.
Trick Discusses WrestleMania Entrance Attire
Trick Williams drew plenty of attention at WrestleMania 42 with his elaborate entrance attire, but he explained this week that pulling it off was no easy task.
Williams wore a white fur coat, which included a train that essentially went the length of the WrestleMania entrance ramp.
Speaking to The Sportster (h/t WrestleTalk), Trick noted that pulling the train all the way to the ring was a struggle, saying, "There was a moment when that jacket got heavy. It was 80 pounds of mink coat, man. Eighty pounds, that's a lot, and 80 pounds over 100 yards felt like 200, 250. It was like a sled pull. I had to make sure I looked good while I did it."
Making his WrestleMania debut, Williams faced Sami Zayn, who is a former WrestleMania main eventer and one of the most successful Superstars of the past decade.
While it wasn't long ago that Zayn was a beloved babyface, Trick's popularity essentially made him the babyface in the rivalry and relegated Zayn to more of a heel role.
The crowd erupted when Williams beat Zayn for the United States Championship, marking Trick Willy's first title of any kind on the main roster.
Williams understood the assignment at WrestleMania in terms of creating memorable moments, and he seems poised for a massive push coming out of the biggest show of the year.
