Predicting WWE Backlash 2026 Match Card After WrestleMania 42 Results
Just two days removed from WrestleMania 42, it would normally be too early to predict the next premium live event.
However, Backlash 2026 is less than three weeks away, and WWE will need to move fast to put this card together.
For that reason, it is the perfect time to discuss what WWE is likely to do to answer the biggest questions coming out of WrestleMania.
Who will make the card? Who will miss? What matches will steal the show?
Given WWE's past trend with PLE cards, this is the most likely five-match card for Backlash following 'Mania 42.
Women's Tag Team Championships: Brie Bella and Paige (c) vs. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss
1 of 5
The biggest talking point from Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 was the return of Paige, who won the Women's Tag Team Championships with Brie Bella.
It would be silly to not play off that hype and keep the momentum into Backlash.
While the former tag team champions were Nia Jax and Lash Legend, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss have more history to play on with the new tag champions.
WWE can quickly put this match together for Backlash and allow Paige more time to shine in her WWE return, working in a more focused tag match.
Long term, this could also help set the stage for an eventual battle of eras where Paige, Brie, Nikki Bella and AJ Lee can fight Alexa, Charlotte, Bayley and Becky Lynch.
Iyo Sky vs. Asuka
2 of 5Iyo Sky vs. Asuka: the 14th WrestleMania 42 match that never was.
After all the build-up between these friends turned bitter rivals, WWE did not move forward with this match for 'Mania.
That leaves this match as a must for Backlash. Sky and Asuka must have their opportunity to deliver an emotional payoff for this rivalry.
The involvement of Rhea Ripley and Kairi Sane should add additional intrigue. This is the right time for The Pirate Princess to finally break away her abusive mentor.
While no titles are on the line in this contest, this could serve as an unofficial No. 1 contender's match for either the Women's World Championship or WWE Women's Championship.
What matters most is that WWE not forget about this story any longer as it is the best story in the women's division.
The Vision - Bron Breakker, Logan Paul and Austin Theory vs. Seth Rollins and The Street Profits
3 of 5The money is in Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, but there is no reason to rush that match.
Instead, WWE can push this Vision story forward by giving Rollins and his new allies The Street Profits a shot at the whole Vision at Backlash.
Especially with less than three weeks left before Backlash, this six-man tag feels more appropriate and would allow Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins to show off after a long absence.
Ford or Dawkins pinning Austin Theory would also set the stage for their own World Tag Team Championships pursuits.
The Usos might also get involved, but it seems more likely they will focus on backing up Roman Reigns right away.
Women's World Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Stephanie Vaquer
4 of 5
One of the biggest talking points out of WrestleMania 42 was how short Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan was.
Morgan was back to action on Raw, and Vaquer faced off with her after her match. There is no better time than Backlash to rectify the short world title match.
La Primera has the talent to deliver a spectacle match against one of WWE's biggest stars, and this could genuinely steal the show at Backlash.
It is unclear if this will be a straightforward one-on-one match or include a stipulation, but it would be best for the match's quality if The Judgment Day could not interfere.
This is the time to sell what Liv can do on her own against one of the brightest rising stars in the business.
World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
5 of 5Roman Reigns' title celebration on Raw was interrupted by another WrestleMania winner, Jacob Fatu, seeking a shot at The OTC.
While the match is not official yet, there is no reason to delay this contest. Reigns vs. Fatu is the main event of Backlash.
Especially while Cody Rhodes recovers from his injuries suffered at 'Mania, WWE needs The OTC defending the top gold.
The Samoan Werewolf proved himself fully against Drew McIntyre and can take that next step up by competing at Reigns' level.
It is far too soon for Reigns to lose the World Heavyweight Championship, but The Samoan Werewolf will deliver the best match of his career at Backlash.
