McKelvin to Miss Beginning of Regular Season

The Around the NFL Twitter account provided the news of McKelvin being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.
Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News reported Ryan stated McKelvin's injury would no longer be considered a day-to-day situation back on Aug. 6. He wouldn't provide many details but admitted it's "possible" the corner had another procedure, per Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.
To illustrate the lack of certainty surrounding the injury, Ryan would only say he's confident McKelvin would play "this season," as noted by Chris Brown of the team's official site. That's obviously a wide range for his potential return.
He originally suffered a fractured ankle last November in a game against the Miami Dolphins, and he hoped to be ready for camp before the setback.
The focus shifts to rookie Ronald Darby. The Bills drafted him in the second round, and he'll now have every opportunity to secure a spot in the starting lineup alongside Stephon Gilmore.
Ryan is impressed with what he's seen so far, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.com on Aug. 1:
"Opportunities come to other people. We're excited where Darby is at and some of the other guys will get the reps. We've talked about the depth that we've had at that position. It's good. But obviously Leodis is a good football player and we hope that he gets back on the field soon.
"
The Bills defense must be among the league's best if the team is going to make its first playoff appearance in 16 years. Losing McKelvin for an extended stretch would be a serious hit to its depth in the secondary.
