This was a brutal contest to say the least, with both men delivering an incredible amount of punishment.
In the end, Fatu hit McIntyre in the head with a toolbox, sending his rival onto a table set up in the middle of the ring.
Fatu then hit the turnbuckle to deliver a Mighty Moonsault through the table and got the pin.
Although he took the loss, McIntyre had the upper hand on occasion, and he even found the time and energy to post a four-second video on social media mid-match.
WrestleMania marked the culmination of a months-long rivalry that began back in October when both Fatu and McIntyre were trying to position themselves for an Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes.
However, before their scheduled No. 1 Contender's match on an episode of SmackDown, Fatu was found laid out backstage next to a pool of blood and a pile of his own teeth.
That put The Samoan Werewolf out of action for the next three months before he returned during a Three Stages of Hell match for the WWE title between Rhodes and McIntyre.
Fatu initially targeted McIntyre, preventing him from exiting a steel cage, but when Rhodes got involved, Fatu started to attack him as well.
Amid the commotion, McIntyre was able to escape the cage and win the match, making him the new undisputed WWE champion.
Fatu had issues with both Rhodes and McIntyre in the weeks that followed, but his rivalry with McIntyre took precedence once the Scot interfered in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match and cost him a spot in the bout.
In retaliation, Fatu interfered during a WWE title bout between McIntyre and Rhodes on the March 6 episode of SmackDown, leading to The American Nightmare beating The Scottish Warrior for the championship.
McIntyre got some payback the following week by costing Fatu a match against Trick Williams, and all hell broke loose from there, as they brawled all night the next week on SmackDown.
With neither man willing to relent, SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis announced they would clash in an Unsanctioned match at WrestleMania 42, meaning WWE could not be held responsible for anything that happened.
Fatu finally got the better of McIntyre on The Grandest Stage of Them All, which potentially puts him in position for the WWE title opportunity he has been seeking.
