Rhodes vs. Orton Repeating Old Mistakes, More WWE Raw Fallout Including Rollins vs. Gunther Reaction
The March 30 edition of Raw on Netflix aired live from the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
This show continued to build toward WrestleMania 42 including another intense fight between CM Punk and Roman Reigns and a Stephanie McMahon plea to Cody Rhodes about his upcoming clash with Randy Orton.
The show also included the return of Roxanne Perez to help Liv Morgan, Seth Rollins' WrestleMania opponent revealed and Logan Paul and Austin Theory taking the World Tag Team Championships from The Usos.
This was an important night for WWE all around that may have fully revealed the remaining card for The Show of Shows.
WWE Needs to Avoid McMahon Drama
1 of 5Stephanie McMahon made a surprise appearance on Monday night, warning Cody Rhodes about the threat a diabolical Randy Orton poses to him as champion.
This face-off even led to a Vince McMahon reference that continued small hints that the former boss could be returning to WWE.
Triple H also made an unnecessary appearance during the Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi confrontation in which officials tried to keep the big men apart until The Show of Shows.
All of this teases a terrible move for WWE: returning to the familiar with the McMahons not only in charge behind the camera but also in front of it.
WWE should never bring back Vince in any capacity, and Stephanie and Triple H offer little to the current product as on-air talent.
Even with the currently struggling WrestleMania hype, the answer will never be to return to what has not worked before. It is time to find a new direction rather than the terrible familiar.
Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton Repeating Too Much from Cena Rivalry
2 of 5
While the McMahon drama was an unnecessary diversion from WWE's WrestleMania plans, the actual direction to the April 18-19 event is also struggling to take off.
One reason is the overly familiar direction for Cody Rhodes' Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Randy Orton.
At every turn so far, WWE has made Rhodes vs. Orton feel like Rhodes vs. John Cena complete with The American Nightmare still struggling to "get dirty" when the time is right.
This story was already settled last year when The American Nightmare and The GOAT collided for a second time at SummerSlam.
It was even played out in the last match between Rhodes and Orton where both were willing to take shortcuts in the King of the Ring tournament in 2025.
WWE should lean into the history between these men rather than ignoring it to tell the same tired angle of the babyface who needs to learn to take some shortcuts to stay on top.
It is not only a boring angle when played out repeatedly, but it also serves to distract from what matters most: the genuine emotion of pitting these two men against each other again.
WWE Must Build New Tag Division Foundation Around Logan Paul, Austin Theory
3 of 5
It was the right time to move the World Tag Team Championships to The Vision, who were likely always going to carry the gold into WrestleMania.
The personnel has changed, notably Logan Paul taking the place of the injured Bronson Reed, but the end goal was clear: gold for The Vision.
The Usos vs. The Vision makes the most sense for 'Mania, possibly throwing in LA Knight and IShowSpeed on opposite sides as well.
After that, it is time to rebuild the foundation of the men's tag team division. The Maverick with the gold is guaranteed to keep attention on the division strong.
That spotlight should go to the underserved teams and talent that can build the backbone of this division for years to come.
The New Day and The War Raiders are solid but almost forgotten pieces, while Los Americanos and Alpha Academy have been embarrassed often on Raw.
LWO has multiple tag team formations that could play a key role on Raw. Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh have plenty of credibility to feud with any team.
With a roster shake-up with SmackDown, both tag team divisions can thrive with Paul and Theory at the top as the villains to dethrone.
Liv Morgan Will Win at WrestleMania
4 of 5Winning the Royal Rumble does not always translate to a WrestleMania victory, but all signs point to a Liv Morgan takeover of Raw this year.
While The Judgment Day rules the women's division, the group carries no gold. Morgan is pushing this rivalry forward with charismatic clarity.
She is clearly the biggest star in the Raw women's division while Rhea Ripley is on SmackDown.
It would be a massive mistake for Stephanie Vaquer to retain in her first 'Mania match.
A loss would not only centralize the Judgment Day women on Raw, but it would also give La Primera a clear goal to strive toward in 2026.
Morgan has plenty of fresh challengers, including stablemates Raquel Rodriguez and a returning Roxanne Perez.
The stories could jump-start a women's division that lacks a strong spotlight at present.
Gunther is Right Opponent at Wrong Time For Seth Rollins
5 of 5Gunther vs. Seth Rollins is a money match for WWE that could well headline a WrestleMania down the line.
However, it makes no sense that The Career Killer is suddenly after The Visionary overnight. The two had not interacted in a while, and Gunther gets nothing at this time from fighting Rollins.
This sets the stage for a potential Paul Heyman-Gunther alliance, which is an unnecessary move. The Austrian does not need a manager.
Even if this is a one-time business arrangement, it does not play off anything that came before with little time left to sell The Ring General's motivations for targeting Rollins.
While Rollins and Gunther were in need of a 'Mania moment, this comes off as desperate, which should not be a reason for WWE to book anything.
