WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from August 5

Erik BeastonAug 6, 2015

NXT continued to lay the foundation of its next Takeover special Wednesday night, delivering a show full of in-ring action that was headlined by two high-profile matches.

First, Bayley squared off with Charlotte in Divas action. The lovable female competitor believed that the only way to earn a shot at the NXT Women's Championship was to beat the best women the brand had to offer. Charlotte is the epitome of that statement.

Having lost to the second-generation star on numerous occasions, Bayley would pull out all stops to ensure victory.

In the night's main event, Samoa Joe would square off with Rhyno, reigniting a rivalry that has stretched across two major wrestling promotions.

Despite a strong performance from the Man Beast, Joe was able to pick up the win as he continues to roll into Takeover: Brooklyn on August 22.

But which of those two competitors would earn "biggest winner" status for their showing on this week's broadcast?

Who else joined them?

And which unfortunate stars ended up as this week's losers?

Let's take a look.

Winner: Bayley

Too many times over the course of her stint in NXT, Bayley has taken a backseat to other Divas. As Takeover approaches, it is clear that no longer is the case. Wednesday night, she exorcised one of her biggest demons, defeating Charlotte with a top-rope Bayley-to-belly suplex that earned her a No. 1 contender's match with Becky Lynch on next week's broadcast.

There are few Superstars or Divas on the WWE roster who have the connection with fans that Bayley does. She has remained over through every loss, through every injury, because the audience legitimately cares about her, her character and her progression throughout the last year.

Fans want to see her win, and it is that desire that will make her inevitable victory over Sasha Banks at Takeover for the NXT Women's Championship all that more special and momentous.

The win over Charlotte in Wednesday night's best match was just the beginning of what will undoubtedly be a whirlwind few weeks for the Californian.

Losers: Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder

A week ago, Dawson and Wilder scored their biggest win to date with a victory over Enzo Amore and Big Cass. It felt like, at the time, the type of win that would catapult them into the hunt for the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Instead, it was a forgotten moment in time, the setup to their defeat on this week's show.

The team known collectively as The Mechanics dropped a match to Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley, effectively killing any and all momentum built just seven days earlier.

It was tremendously disappointing for anyone who recognizes the talent of both Dawson and Wilder, who are old-school workers reminiscent of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. The more losses they accumulate, the less credibility they will have if they ever receive the sustained push they probably deserve.

Winner: Apollo Crews

Awful new name aside, the video packages hyping the impending debut of Uhaa Nation have made him feel like a fairly big deal.

A powerhouse who can actually work, his arrival in NXT is one of the most anticipated in recent memory. He looks like a million bucks, has natural charisma and should mesh well with some of the other Superstars who make up the brand's immensely talented roster.

That is, if the video packages turn out better for him than they did Dana Brooke, who has fallen off tremendously since her much-anticipated debut months ago.
