UCLA Baseball Teases Jackie Robinson-Inspired Uniforms in New Photos
UCLA teased new throwback baseball jerseys that will honor legend Jackie Robinson.
The design appears to resemble the vintage look the Bruins adopted in 2015, which was a callback to when Robinson was on the team:
Every April 15, MLB celebrates Jackie Robinson Day, which coincides with when he broke the league's color barrier and debuted for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.
Robinson went on to win the Rookie of the Year and was the 1949 National League MVP along with making seven All-Star appearances. He earned induction into the Hall of Fame in 1962.
Baseball was one of four sports the Pasadena, California, native played at UCLA. He was also on the football and basketball teams and competed in track and field. Ironically, baseball was probably his worst sport in college. He batted .097 in the lone year he took the diamond for the Bruins.
That does little to dilute Robinson's legacy at UCLA, where the baseball stadium is named after him.
The Bruins don't have a game on Jackie Robinson Day. They host UC Santa Barbara on April 14 and then return to the field April 17 against Minnesota. Their matchup with the Gauchos might be earmarked for their special retro threads.
