Brock Lesnar made history at WrestleMania 30 when he ended The Undertaker's WrestleMania undefeated streak, but Lesnar admitted this week that he had mixed feelings about the accomplishment.
During an appearance Tuesday on Spittin' Chiclets (h/t Andrew Ravens of WrestlingNews.co), Lesnar provided some insight into the internal struggle he dealt with when he was informed that he would be handing The Deadman the first WrestleMania loss of his career.
"He was a mentor of mine. I worked with Taker for many years," Lesnar said. "And so now we're out in this match and Taker got hit [out of] left field day of. He's coming to his 22nd WrestleMania thinking that he's going to win and then two hours before we go on, the rug gets pulled on him. And so a lot of different emotions there, I'm sure. I was excited, but I also felt bad too. Like, I'm the guy and I get to be the guy."
The Undertaker has gone on record as saying that the original plan called for him to beat Lesnar and extend his WrestleMania undefeated streak to 22-0.
In 2020, Taker spoke to Brian Campbell of CBS Sports and recounted how things changed on the day of WrestleMania 30, saying, "We had gone back and forth depending on the day. It changed very often, but it had been that way [with Lesnar losing] for about a week, and I showed up thinking I was going over. I found out about 1 p.m. that I wasn't. It is what it is."
The Undertaker suggested that he didn't regret not pushing back against the decision, though, saying, "No, not really. I did my job."
While Taker's loss ended one of the most iconic stretches of dominance in pro wrestling history, it also helped further cement Lesnar's status as the unstoppable force in WWE.
That win set the stage for countless major title wins and rivalries for Lesnar in the years that followed against the likes of John Cena, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and many others.
Ending the streak added to the lore of The Beast Incarnate, and that brought no shortage of value to WWE over the years.
Presentation Change Reportedly Planned for Rhodes
After getting viciously attacked at the hands of Randy Orton two weeks ago on SmackDown, WWE champion Cody Rhodes is reportedly poised to give The Viper a taste of his own medicine.
According to Self Made Pro on Self Made Sessions (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), a WWE source said Rhodes is going to "fight fire with fire," and "show a similar edge" to the one Orton displayed upon turning heel.
The Orton heel turn was a shock, as it came during the contract signing for his WWE Championship match against Cody at WrestleMania. Orton busted Rhodes open and assaulted him with a steel chair, which resulted in him being kept off television last week.
Orton continued to run roughshod over SmackDown, attacking Rhodes' longtime friend, Matt Cardona, in a similar fashion.
It initially seemed as though Rhodes vs. Orton at WrestleMania was going to be a friendly rivalry, but that all changed when The Viper struck with a warning shot of sorts toward The American Nightmare.
Suddenly, Rhodes vs. Orton is one of the most heated feuds WWE has entering WrestleMania, and it feels worthy of headlining Night 1.
If Rhodes adds an edge to his character over the final few weeks of build, it stands to make their encounter at the Showcase of the Immortals even more must-see.
Reported Women's Tag Team Title Plans for WrestleMania
After winning the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships at the end of February, Nia Jax and Lash Legend are reportedly poised to have a huge challenge on their hands at WrestleMania 42.
According to BodySlam.net (h/t Wrestle Ops), The Irresistible Forces are slated to put their titles on the line in a Fatal 4-Way tag team match against The Bella Twins, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
The report doesn't come as much of a shock given that several of WWE's top tag teams in the women's division have had Jax and Legend firmly in their crosshairs as of late.
Over the past two weeks, Jax and Legend have defended the titles against Flair and Bliss, and The Bella Twins on SmackDown. Both matches ended in disqualifications because of Flair, Bliss and the Bellas exchanging interference.
On Monday's episode of Raw, Bayley and Valkyria beat The Kabuki Warriors in a tag team match and called out Jax and Legend for a title bout on next week's Raw.
Assuming that contest results in another non-finish, it would give all three challenging teams a legitimate stake to a Women's Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania.
