Why Claressa Shields Says Garrett, NFL Stars Would Need Months of Boxing Training to Beat Logan Paul
Myles Garrett may be a world-class athlete and the NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, but that doesn't mean he would find success in the boxing ring against Logan Paul or others with experience.
At least in the eyes of boxer Claressa Shields.
"They all need to train at least six months," she said of NFL players attempting to box, per TMZ Sports. "Logan Paul has been there with Floyd Mayweather, though, so he has some boxing experience. If the other guys are going to come over, at least give yourself six months so you can at least have a chance. You can't just jump inside the ring."
She explained that "fighting's not easy" and even NFL players need specific training despite their size advantages.
Shields' comments come after Paul discussed fighting NFL players on his Impaulsive podcast (starting at the 29:01 mark), adding "Not a single football player could beat me in a boxing match. … I would throttle Myles Garrett."
It seemed as if Paul was going to get his chance to fight a former NFL player at least when he engaged in a back-and-forth with Le'Veon Bell.
However, he explained earlier this month he received a call from WWE telling him he could not take the fight with the former Pittsburgh Steelers running back:
That drew a response from Bell:
Paul is a WWE star but much less experienced in the boxing ring than his brother, Jake. While Logan fought Mayweather in an exhibition bout, his only professional matchup came against fellow influencer KSI.
Still, Mayweather is one of the all-time greats, and Paul surely received boxing-specific training.
Count Shields among those who thinks Garrett would need a half-year of that type of training to have a chance in a hypothetical boxing match with Paul.
