Tyrese Maxey Injured, Latest News on 76ers Star's Status After Exiting in Loss vs. Hawks
Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey will miss the next two games after suffering a sprained finger in Saturday's 125-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Maxey left the floor near the end of the contest following a collision with teammate Adem Bona.
Philadelphia head coach Nick Nurse previously said that Maxey was undergoing X-rays on his hand after Saturday's 125-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, per Tony Jones of The Athletic.
The 25-year-old finished with 31 points, five assists and four steals while shooting 12-of-22 from the field and 3-of-7 from behind the arc in the defeat.
Maxey missing time is a tough blow to a 76ers squad battling for postseason positioning in the Eastern Conference. They currently hold the No. 8 spot in the East standings, but they're just 1.5 games back from the No. 5 seed while also being 2.5 games in front of the No. 10 seed.
Maxey is in the midst of a stellar 2025-26 campaign, as his averages of 29.0 points, 6.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game all represent career-high marks. He's also shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from three-point territory.
Maxey's ability to handle a large workload has been particularly crucial for a Philadelphia team that has missed contributors such as Joel Embiid and Paul George for long stretches of the year.
Standout rookie VJ Edgecombe is also currently dealing with a lumbar contusion.
Meanwhile, Maxey has appeared in 61 of Philadelphia's 63 games this season and leads the NBA with 2,334 total minutes played.
Cameron Payne is a candidate to start at point guard for the 76ers while Maxey is sidelined.
