Jon Rahm Calls Out DP World Tour, Says 'They're Extorting Players' with Deal Conditions
Jon Rahm continues to be at odds with the DP World Tour amid the protracted battle stemming from his original move to the breakaway LIV Golf series.
"I don't know what game they're trying to play right now, but it just seems like in a way they're using our impact in tournaments and fining us and trying to benefit both ways from what we have to offer," he said, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "[It's] just in a way they're extorting players like [me] and young players that have nothing to do with the politics of the game."
Competing in LIV put Rahm and his peers in violation of the DP World Tour's policy requiring golfers to secure a formal release for outside events.
That has resulted in a series of fines. LIV Golf initially footed the bill for those penalties but stopped doing so with the start of the 2026 season.
In January, the DP World Tour announced it reached an agreement with eight golfers granting their conditional release. The terms included paying any outstanding fines and committing to a specified number of tour events.
Rahm notably wasn't in the group.
The two-time major champion contends the DP World Tour isn't meeting him halfway in terms of how much he'd be mandated to play.
"I just refuse to play six events," he said. "I don't want to, and that's not what the rules say.
Extending this into next year jeopardizes Rahm's availability for the 2027 Ryder Cup. He and Tyrrell Hatton represented Europe this past fall thanks an ongoing appeal of their DP World Tour case.
Absent a clear resolution in his favor, Rahm might be ineligible to compete in Team Europe's title defense at Adare Manor in Ireland.
